Lake Norman Takes Top Matchup

The most anticipated matchup of the day featured No. 1 Lake Norman (4A) and No. 4 Alexander Central (3A).  Each team ran out a potential draft prospect with Justin Jarvis of Lake Norman toeing it up against Zach Hammer for Alexander Central.

 

The billing on the mound lived up to the hype as each arm worked deep into the game.  Hammer took the loss, working into the 6th and striking out 11. Jarvis pounded the zone over 7 innings of work, only allowing 1 hit and punching 8.

 

The big blow came in the 2nd when Scotty Diekman tripled to right field off Hammer, scoring Jonathan Perez, and giving Lake Norman the early lead.   Diekman would score a hitter later on a RBI ground ball from Carson Arnold.

 

In the 6th, Lake Norman turned a leadoff walk from Gage Smith into a run when Jonathan Perez singled to right with one out.  A single from Diekman moved Perez to 3B and he later scored on an error.
