The 2023 Overall Rankings have been updated and the class looks to have a particularly strong crop of catching. Several state directors submitted the top freshman backstop from their state, which you can find below.

George Baker, C, Grace Christian School, MD
Baker was an instant standout this past winter at the Maryland Freshmen Free Showcase, showing impact for the next level. Strength is already present in his smooth swing with easy pop. He hits from a balanced, slightly open stance with a toe tap load, nice hand separation and rhythm. He takes a slightly uphill swing path with loose hands and quick bat speed. He shows some lower half involvement and gets good extension through contact, taking a gap-to-gap approach with power to the pull side. Behind the plate, he has quick footwork and a clean exchange, producing workout pop times of 1.96-2.03.
