No. 11 Burns is the defending 3A State Champion in North Carolina and started its title defense at No. 18 South Point. Wingate commit, Talan McConnel took the ball for South Point and showed flashes of brilliance, but did not match the effort of Burns' RHP Jackson Toney who worked 6 innings, giving up just 1 hit, and striking out 7.  Jr. Colby Putnam moved from SS to the bump for the 7th, striking out 2 in his one inning of work to close the game.
