Wesleyan Christian Holds Off Oak Grove for 8-5 Victory
Finch Field | Thomasville, NC | March 8, 2025
Game 3 at Finch Field of the Hi-Toms HS Invite featured a top-5 matchup between No. 4 Wesleyan Christian Academy and Oak Grove, with Wesleyan securing an 8-5 win in a windy, offense-heavy battle.
The Trojans struck first, scoring two runs in the opening two innings, highlighted by an RBI single from Blake Goff and a run-scoring double by Cole Bowman. In the second inning, Bowman delivered again, driving in two runs with a clutch single to right.
Elijah Martin started on the mound for WCA, working into the fifth inning while limiting Oak Grove’s offense. However, Oak Grove battled back in the fifth as Carson Everhart launched a three-run homer, bringing the Grizzlies within 6-5.
Wesleyan Christian responded immediately, taking advantage of an Oak Grove defensive miscue to plate two unearned runs, securing the final margin. Tobias Waldridge shut the door in relief, earning the save with 2.2 innings of one-hit ball.

SCOUT BLOG
Josh Hammond, SS, Wesleyan Christian Academy, 2025
Wake Forest commit. With a pack of MLB Scouts in the house to see Hammond he performed at a fairly high level. Plays with energy. Physically strong, listed at 6-foot-1, 194 pounds. Seems to have slimmed up a bit from the Prep Baseball All-American game, showing improved lateral quickness. Offensively put together 4 good at-bats with 3 hits, 2 hard on the barrel, and a walk. Ran well down the line, going 4.43 on a rollover to the 3B where he was held up in the box a bit, before beating the play to the bag. Defensively, continues to catch the ball. Good bend in the hips. Quick, athletic exchange.
