Each week leading up to the new year, we will be rolling out “Inside the Rankings” articles to further highlight the movement around the ‘23 class in NY and PA. This week, the focus begins on “Helium Watch” candidates - players that have a good chance to take that next step and ascend up the rankings.

2023 OF/LHP Trevor-Isaiah Eastman (Stepinac)

The Spin: Long and wiry at 6-foot, 173lbs, Isaiah-Eastman offers a high ceiling on both sides of the ball. The primary southpaw attacks with fast, whippy arm-action creating heavy arm-side run into the low 80’s (80-82 mph), pairing a commanded 68-70 mph SL with short lateral action. The “helium” may come more as a position player in the short-term with bursty actions (6.79 runner) and a centerfield profile defensively (88 mph arm). The lefty carries a natural feel for the game into the box with a quick, direct LHH swing that produces flush contact to all fields (T94 exit). All in all, this is a tooled-up prospect with room still to add.

The Performance: Continued hinting at a possible breakout with an impressive day across the board on a cold, brisk afternoon at #NEPride Scout Day in late-October. The movements continue becoming more and more refined with some of the better overall athleticism in NY's '23 class. An interesting two-way piece that could blossom in either facet.
