November 8, 2022 Max Schrantz Deputy Director
Scouting Report
6/30/21
Physical: Lengthy, strong 6-foot-3, 180lb frame with some projection. 7.87 runner in the 60-yard dash.
Offensively: RHH - Wider, slightly closed stance as the hands operated loosely off the shoulder. Stretched load backwards on-time with a directional lift and replace stride to initiate the bat head through a flat path into the hitting zone. Worked towards a soft, adjustable front-side producing a mostly middle of the order approach during batting practice. Notched a T87 mph bat-exit velocity with feel for the barrel en route to a 36% line drive rate during batting practice.
Defensively: Quality movements around the bag at first, able to stay balanced and keep his feet under himself. Approached right-left, right-left, staying over the front-side and in attack mode, following throws to the target with momentum from a lower ¾ slot (accurate, 78 mph arm, medium intent).
Pitching: RHP - Started off the middle of the rubber with above-average pace in the delivery; came stacked at a balanced, slightly hip-coiled position, hiding the baseball and working down the slope on-time from a whippy, H ¾ slot. Late draw, taking it out of the glove later towards footstrike, creating some deception on a fast release pounding the zone at 80-82 mph with big arm-side run. Mixed a sweeping 67-69 mph CB across the plate in advantage counts at 1763 average rpms, adding a 68-70 mph CH that could land for strikes (minor lateral movement, 33% zone rate via Trackman).
2/18/21
Physical: Projectable 6-foot-3, 170-pound frame with wiry strength at the moment. 8.25 runner in the 60-yard dash.
Offensively: RHH - The righty started from a narrow, upright stance with the torso leaning slightly out over the plate; hands began low at chest level. Utilized a lift and replace stride with some dive out towards the front side; initiated the hands through a flat path into the hitting zone allowing for a 43% line drive rate per Trackman Baseball. Noticeable bat to ball skills with ability to match pitch plane (72% on plane efficiency). Recorded a 79 mph peak bat-exit velocity pointing towards developing doubles power.
Defensively: The primary first baseman showcased above-average feel around the bag from a medium-low posture at the fielding window, a soft glove hand showed out in front of the middle of his body with quick turns on double play feeds to the inside, rangy movements with long strides in either direction. Interesting defender up to 75 mph across the diamond.
9/19/20
Physical: Lean, 6-foot-2, 165-pound frame with projectability in the build and room to add strength as he matures. 8.17 runner in the 60-yard dash. Offensively: Switch hitter. Mirrored from both sides of the plate starting with a tall, even stance as the knees point inwards coupled with the hands showing slight rhythm at the shoulder. Utilized a barrel wiggle for stretch at the shoulder in order to initiate the hands through a twitchy, slightly uphill path and into the hitting zone. Hit into a stiff front side while getting the barrel out towards the front of the plate, yielding hard pull-side contact during batting practice. Showed off lift after impact generating an impressive 60% line drive rate during his round and demonstrating quality bat to ball skills in the box. Repeatable swing with ability to improve power in the coming years with added strength. Recorded a peak bat-exit velocity of 84 mph per Trackman Baseball / 277 foot maximum batted ball distance. Defensively: The first baseman showcased a medium center of gravity on the approach with a soft glove hand, adequate feel around the bag and chose to not use inside footwork on double play footwork. Fielded the ball off of the middle/left side of his body with good pace across the diamond. INF - 75 mph Pitching: RHP - Started from the middle-right side of the rubber with above average pace in the delivery, side rocker step into a medium-high leg lift at the top of the stack / slight hip coil, good lower half drive with extension on the release out of a long, high ¾ slot. FB ranged from 74-76 mph getting an upwards of 1981 spin to it per Trackman Baseball, mixed in a developing 61-63 mph breaker with short 11/5 shape across the zone.
2/17/20
Physical: 5-foot-11, 140-pounds. Wiry build with room for added weight. Run: 8.37 runner in the 60. Hit: RHH. Bent knees with hands level with shoulders, high back elbow, bat waggle and medium stride for timing Uses the lower half well, finishes with chest to the sky, gets barrel out in front, has some pull side tendencies. Power: 72 MPH raw exit velocity. Hard contact to the pull side. Defense: Stays low to the ground when attacking the ball, hands go to the ground late, should start lower and work up. Arm: Medium arm swing with high 3/4 slot. INF - 71 MPH.
Pitching Delivery: Up tempo, shows back side on leg lift, taps the glove with ball at hand separation for rhythm, strides back to even while staying back with shoulder tilt, repeatable follow through on a firm front side. Arm Action: Long, whippy arm action with a 3/4 release. FB: T72, 70-72 MPH. Natural arm side tail. CB: 57-60 MPH. 111-5 shape, locates in the zone. SL: 62-63 MPH. Commands down with sharp break.
9/21/19
Goodness is a right handed hitter that sets up in a wide base. Takes a short stride towards the pitcher before attacking the hitting zone. Slight lift at the point of contact. Displayed hard contact to the pull side during batting practice at the Fall Top Prospect Games. Defensively, the 1B fields the baseball in a low wide base. Takes his time to gather himself when making throws across the diamond. Moves well around the bag. On the mound, Goodness displayed a repeatable delivery. Goodness works with a three pitch mix. SL is a good pitch with late sweeping action. CB is an above average pitch right now. The 2023 graduate has a projectable lean frame. Goodness is a must follow as he continues to develop.
10/14/17
Goodness is a 5-foot-6 130-pound right-handed first baseman and pitcher. 2023 grad with ability to develop over time. Ran a 9.55 60. Offensively- stands with legs shoulder width apart. All or nothing swing, momentum has him falling over after swing. High leg kick on load, hands waive back and forth pre pitch. Showed line drive results and some positive actions. Favors pull side; exit velocity of 60 MPH. Defensively- Standard low-to-the ground corner infield setup; bends at waist when fielding ground balls, more bend in knees needed. Footwork could be more aggressive into the ball and through his shuffle steps. Throws across the diamond at 46 MPH. Needs work but can mature physically and develop over time. Pitching- Pitches out of the stretch on the first base side of the rubber with some recoil to his delivery. Hands start at chest with knee coming up right below. Over the top arm action. Falls off to first base side, lacks consistent command. Front foot finishes pointed towards third base, not towards home plate. Fastball tops at 59 MPH and sits between 57-59 MPH. Curveball in early stages of development at 49-50 MPH with some sweeping action.
