2025 OHSAA Tournament: Division I State Semifinal - #10 Olentangy vs #11 Lakota West

AKRON - Olentangy is one win away from the first state title in school history after a 3-1 win over Lakota West in Saturday’s Division I semifinals at Thurman Munson Stadium.

Rocco Bucci surrendered an unearned run in six innings before Cooper Tracy closed it out with a one-hit seventh for the 10th-ranked team in Ohio.

The Braves led 1-0 after three thanks to a Tracy sacrifice fly following singles from Ty Walburn and Carter Hire and a walk to Bucci.

Dominic Pirrone hit a two-run double in the fifth after base hits by Tracy and Birch.

Lakota West, which had runners on first and second with two outs in the third and fourth but failed to come up with the big hit, finally broke through against Bucci in the sixth on a Adrian Smith sacrifice fly that plated Hudson Lehman who reached on a single.

But the 11th-ranked Firebirds came up short when a two-on, two-out fly ball ended the game in the seventh putting Olentangy in the state finals on Sunday at 4 p.m. at Canal Park against Springboro.

HOT TAKES

PLAYER OF THE GAME: Bucci fanned four and walked four in his three-hit performance. The 20th-ranked sophomore southpaw in the state also had a single and a walk.

WHAT’S NEXT?: The first three batters in the lineup return for Lakota West next year along with sophomore center fielder Parker Isaacs, who had one of the four base knocks for Brad Gschwind’s team.
