Scouting Report
2/11/18
The Ohio State recruit, is the total package at the plate, standing out as the top performer amongst a very talented group. The lefty rarely misses the barrel and his advanced natural tools allow him to drive the baseball all over the field with a lower effort swing. The future Buckeye generates true ball flight with a swing that plays for both average and power. He generated a top exit velocity of 97 mph, looked the part in the outfield, and ran a 6.87 60-yard dash.
60-yard dash: 6.84
Outfield Velocity: 85
Exit Velocity: 97

6-foot, 200-pound prospect. Projects as a corner outfield type. Shows athleticism in his feet. Would like to see him more aggressive to the ball at times. Consistently plays the ball to the outside of his body. Small crow hop with clean transfer. Top velocity of 80 mph to his throws. Showed advanced natural tools from the left side. Velazquez produces impressive energy into contact with a series of well-timed movements in his swing. The type of guy that can do damage to both sides of the field. Ohio State is getting a good one.
60 Yard Dash: 6.96
Position Velocity: 80
Exit Velocity: 91

A physical specimen at 6-foot-0, 195-pounds. While he is only a sophomore at Columbus DeSales HS, Velazquez is the most physical prospect in his class - and for that matter, he may have been the most physically built prospect in attendance at Preseason All-State.The Ohio State commit proved why has been a regarded as one of the state’s top prospects in the 2019 class. At the plate, he has noticeably advanced strength and bat speed from the left-side. He remains fluid throughout his loading sequence before getting his barrel on plane early and taking a level path to the baseball. The ball looks different coming off his bat compared to other prospects his age. In addition, he looked comfortable and fluid in the outfield with obvious feel for the position. His arm is loose and accurate to home plate.
60 Yard Dash: 7.19
OF Velocity: 83
Exit Velo (Wood Bat): 92

You won’t see many 2019 prospects look like Joey does physically. Looks more like he’s going to be a college sophomore, not a high school one. The lefty gets through the zone with obvious strength and batspeed as he showed by registering an exit velocity of 90 mph. Ball jumps off his bat and he is able to work both sides of the field. Shows all the signs of being a power and average guy down the road. Did not participate in defensive workout. Ran a 7.07 60-yard dash.
