Report: Shapiro, a 6-foot, 175-pound two-way player, played in the outfield on Day 1. From the left side of the plate, Shapiro comes towards the ball with a wide stride, keeping his hands back and rotating well. There’s bat control resulting in bat-to-ball abilities; he makes good use out of the whole field and is able to locate the ball. He is a selective hitter who will work the count, and today that was clear as he battled with two-strikes in his first at-bat. During his last at-bat, he took a pitch on the upper half of the plate, and with a flat bat path matched the pitch and drove it into the left-center gap for an RBI double. He wasn't challenged much in the outfield on this day. Shapiro will take the mound in tomorrow’s game against Ohio.
