Ontario Insider: Early Signing Period - JUCO
With the early signing period coming to a halt this week, we typically see more and more Ontario players committing to junior colleges over the next few weeks with a big push of signees happening in the new year.
The total count currently sits at six for junior college commits. Last year there was a total pushing 40 of all the players who had committed to a junior college. We expect to be around that number again this year with another strong class with depth.
Today we take a look at the players who look to take their talents on to two-year programs with the junior college route.
Crowder
Overview: One of the more recent junior college commits to verbal is left-handed hitting outfielder Riley Perks of the Fieldhouse Pirates. At 6-foot-1, 195-pounds, Perks is a physical player with strength and size. The bat is his best tool and with a pull approach, sees a lot of his power directed to the right side of the diamond. Perks has had reps at both corner positions in the outfield as well play a strong defensive first base. With his size and strength to go along with the bat from the left side with power, Perks should be able to contribute as a freshman at Crowder, which is located in Missouri.
