Ontario Preseason Invitational: Pitcher Quick Hits
February 23, 2025
On Monday, February 17th, the Prep Baseball Ontario staff hosted it's third event of the 2025 season with our inaugural and sold out Ontario Preseason Invitational hosted at the Athletes Turf Inc., home of the Ontario Blue Jays, in Mississauga, Ontario.
This event featured 60+ prospects in the 2025 - 2028 classes and it was another strong group that featured some of the top players in their respective classes and provided some strong leaderboards on both the positional side and the pitching side. Players at the event, alongside Preseason Events across the country, are competing for roster spots on Canada/Ontario's National Team's at events such as the Future Games, Senior Future Games, West Coast Games, New York State Games, NorthEast Senior Games and the Best of the West.
All player ran through a full workout that included batting practice and bullpens captured on our TrackMan, as well as 30-yard springs captured by VALD Performance. Over the next several days we'll be highlighting top performers from the event within our post-event analysis. Stay locked into our social media channels over the next several days as we continue to push out video, leaderboards and more.
Earlier this week, we broke down the top measurable data performers from the event with our Statistical Analysis and Pitching Data Dive. Now, we conclude our post-event coverage within this Positional Data Dive as we take a look at the top TrackMan Hitting and VALD Performance running/jumping data.

‘26 C/RHP Dominic Fiorenza (Team Ontario Astros/Uncommitted): Fiorenza put together one of the top overall performances as he flashed his strength on the mound and on the mound. The 6-foot-2, 205-pound right-hander was the clubhouse leader in fastball velocity, running it up to 90.8mph, while sitting 89-90mph. Fiorenza also featured a slider at 76-79mph and sinker at 85-88mph. Offensively, the right-handed hitter generated an exit velocity of 101.2mph which was good for top five at the event. Fiorenza possesses some loud tools and will be a player to follow in Team Ontario’s class of 2026.

‘25/26 RHP Simon Santos (Fieldhouse Pirates/Uncommitted): Santos is currently one of the top unsigned senior arms in Ontario and will be reclassing back to 2026 following his graduation. The 6-foot-2, 203-pound right-hander out of the Fieldhouse Pirates 87-89mph throughout his bullpen, the second best fastball velocity at the event (89.4mph). Strength in the frame with good direction, strike-throwing abilities and feel to spin the breaking ball at 73-75mph. The secondary stuff includes a curveball, slider and changeup. An arm in Ontario’s who’s steadily trended upwards over the past year and looks primed for a strong 2025 campaign. Uncommitted 2025/26 arm college coaches need to know in Ontario.

‘25 RHP Andrew Maltar (Ontario Royals/Williston State Commit): Maltar was one of the top arms in attendance, showing a blend of power stuff and pitchability that should translate well at the next level. Leverages a strong lower half and some violence in his actions. The fastball topped at 88.6mph, sitting in the 86-87mph range and living in the zone. Maltar’s power slider shows as a legitimate out pitch, thrown with some intent at 79-82mph and flashing bite in the zone. The arsenal is rounded out by the changeup with some heavy arm-side run (20.2in horizontal movement) that should play against college hitters. Andrew has developed well heading into his senior season, and there looks to be more to come from the Royals product.

‘27 RHP Cooper Doan (London Badgers/Uncommitted): Doan is an arm that created some buzz on Monday at our event. The kid can spin it amongst the best of them in the ‘27 class living in the 86-87 mph range with feel for all three pitches. A quality mover with a loose arm that possesses a 6-foot-2, 180-pound frame and there’s more there. He will be a close follow in the years ahead and should continue to trend up with added strength.

‘25/26 RHP Michael Murphy Vazquez (Ontario Royals/Uncommitted): ‘25 Michael Murphy Vazquez put together one of the cleanest bullpens on Monday and the unsigned senior will be looking to attend school as a 2026. The 5-foot-11, 160-pound right-hander with a simple, clean delivery and works with good direction that saw his fastball sit 85-87mph and showed the ability to locate it. Murphy Vazquez worked with a trio of offspeed pitches and was able to land all three for strikes with a vertical curveball at 71-72mph, slider at 74-75mph and changeup at 78mph. Murphy Vazquez is an arm that schools will need to get a look at this spring/summer as an uncommitted 2026.

‘26 RHP Logan Dawe (London Badgers/Uncommitted): Dawe, an uncommitted 2026 arm out of the London Badgers program, caught our attention in the fall at the team’s Scout Day and has developed well since that time. The 5-foot-10, 180-pound two-way talent sat 84-86mph on the mound and was able to fill up the zone with his three-pitch mix that also included a curveball and changeup. On the positional side, Dawe posted a peak exit velocity of 93.5mph from the left-side of the plate, was up to 87mph on the infield and ran a 4.22 30-yard dash.

‘25/26 RHP Malachi Farrow (Great Lake Canadians/Uncommitted): 2025 Malachi Farrow is an arm who jumped onto our radar at the event as an intriguing unsigned senior arm who will also be moving back to the 2026 class. There’s length and room to fill out at 6-foot-2, 175-pounds and the GLC product worked with a three-pitch mix that saw his FB sit 83-85mph. His best secondary offering on the day was the changeup at 78-80 with 17+ inches of horizontal break and also featured a developing breaking ball at 72-75 with 2575+ rpm. Overall, an interesting profile with his best days ahead of him and will be an uncommitted upperclassmen to follow throughout the summer.

‘27 RHP Tanner Wiens (Fieldhouse Pirates/Uncommitted): This was our first look at Wiens in 2025 and he continues to flash why he’s a premiere arm in the 2027 class. Continues to stand out amongst his peers with an athletic, desirable pitchers frame at 6-foot-3, 190-pounds and looks to be more growing to come. The fastball sat 82-84 from a high-¾ slot and does a good job tunnelling his three pitches. The secondary stuff is able to get outs already with both still developing as the tight slider sat 70-73 with a diving splitter at 73-74mph. Wiens will be an arm college coaches will want to take a look at this summer as he makes his rounds in the United States.

‘27 RHP Myles Stevens (Ontario Yankees/Uncommitted): Stevens impressed on the bump in Mississauga, showing off the progression since Yankees Scout Day in September. One of the stronger pitchers in Ontario’s 2027 class, Stevens boasts a 6-foot-1, 170-pound frame that gets down the mound with some tenacity. It’s a controlled delivery with some whip on the back end. The fastball lived 81-83mph (peak of 83.4mph) and looks to be effective down in the zone. The curve and slider both hold strong, distinct profiles that play well off of each other and look to be strong offerings at the next level. Overall, Stevens is a clean mover with a frame to grow into that warrants a follow going forward.
