Memphis Rising Stars ID: Quick Hits

MEMPHIS, TN - The Prep Baseball Tennessee Memphis Rising Stars ID was held on Sunday, March 16th at Gagliano Field in Memphis, TN. This event was an open event that consisted of players from the 2029-2030 classes from Volunteer State. Players went through an extended pro-style workout that included batting practice using Trackman, ran the 60-yard dash using Vald Performance, and much more. Pitchers were able to get numbers and metrics on TrackMan. There were some players who showed up and continued to build off of prior performances, but there were also some new names who jumped onto our radar with a strong showing at the event.

McClain Garner RHP / C / Collierville High School, TN / 2029Garner stood out as he possessed a physical frame with more room to grow. He hit from the left side and showed a very mature approach by staying in the middle of the field. The load is compact and he does a good job of staying in the ground which helps him stay through the zone. Got his exit velocity up to 85 mph and showed present strength to the pull side. He was also a solid defender and showed the ability to play in the infield and outfield with advanced actions and a good arm up to 78 mph. Garner also threw a bullpen with an upper 70’s fastball with clean mechanics. |

John Beasley C / 3B / Houston High School, TN / 2029John Beasely had an eye-popping showcase at times flashing behind the plate and with the bat. Beasely has a long athletic frame that works well for him. He showed a consistent 2.1-2.15 pop time with a strong 71 mph from behind the plate which are both big numbers for his age. At the plate, he showed tremendous strength with an exit velocity of 87 mph and consistently put balls to the warning track. Beasely also showed his versatility with the ability to play in the infield and pitch. He showed off an absolute banger with a curveball with a 2406 spin rate. Pitching is definitely in his future as his brother Will is one of the big arms for Houston High. |

Brady Sumner 3B / C / Colliervile, TN / 2029Sumner was one of the most physical players we have seen so far in the 2029 class. He has a big strong frame and profiles as a power hitting corner infielder. Sumner hits right-handed and from a wide base and has tremendous pull side power getting up to a 97 mph exit velocity. In the field, Sumner showed developing actions and a strong arm up to 76 mph that should continue to get even better. He will be a force for Collierville going into next spring. |

Redding Wilson SS / OF / Westover Elementary, TN / 2029Redding Wilson came in as one of the most intriguing players for us. Wilson showed the most athleticism at the showcase. Wilson has a strong mature frame that will continue to get even stronger as he gets into high school. He showed off his athleticism with an impressive 7.08 60 time that will certainly get down well below 7 as he gets older. He also had an impressive round of BP with good power to the gaps. In the field, Wilson showed a strong glove and quick release that will keep him in the middle infield. |

Cannon Jewell 3B / RHP / Briarcrest Christian School, TN / 2029Jewell has a mature frame with present strength. He had an impressive round of BP hitting from a wide base and a simple approach using his bottom half to drive balls into the gap with ease. Jewell showed an advanced approach, never getting too big. He was also really good on the mound with a short arm action and a fastball that sat in the upper 70s. Jewell will be one to watch as he gets onto campus at a great program at Briarcrest. |

Jace Scoggins RHP / 3B / TIPTON-ROSEMARK ACADEMY, TN / 2029Jace Scoggins had one of the most impressive bullpens with an advanced ability to pitch at a young age. Scoggins threw 3 pitches and was able to throw them consistently throughout his session. His fastball sits in the upper 70s with good movement. His changeup showed good promise that should continue to develop. The curveball was the most impressive in the upper 60s with a 2092 spin rate. |

Carter Flee RHP / OF / Houston Middle School, TN / 2029Flee is another arm that showed a tremendous ability to pitch in his pen. Flee is a tall lanky pitcher with a frame that will continue to get stronger. Flee showed a fastball up to 78 mph with an advanced ability to throw it to both sides of the plate. His offspeed is also developing and he showed the ability to control both in the zone. Flee has a tremendous upside with his frame and advanced feel for pitching. |
