TN 2027 CATCHING CLASS:
STRENGTH BEHIND THE PLATE

The catching crop from the Tennessee class of 2027’s is shaping up as one of the most impactful and talent-rich groups the state has seen in years. It is exceedingly rare for a premium position to have this much of a stockpile at the top and made our decisions extremely tough when putting together last summer’s Preb Baseball Future Games roster. You have a collection of strong bats, big arms and big, long-term ceilings at the catching position.

At the top, we did lose the No. 1 overall ranked player in the state and Mississippi State signee Will Brick, who reclassified up to the 2026 class as he now steps into his senior season and the top ranked prep catching prospect in the country. However, with the class losing its top ranked backstop, the class still boasts four players ranked inside of the top ten, with eleven catchers in the top-fourty.

Coming in at No. 2 overall in the state, you have Baylor product Blake Lundy. After missing the Prep Baseball Future games due to a hand injury in July, the talent nevertheless was already sought after and would go on to commit to Tennessee in August. The Tennessee commit comes in at a physical 6’ 3 frame at roughly 225 lbs and has emerged nationally as one of the best in the class with projectable right-handed power and plus arm. Defensively, Lundy’s arm strength and release quickness project him as a future defensive anchor, capable of controlling the running game and handling a staff. At the plate, Lundy is a well rounded hitter that projects for long-term power and slugging potential. Already has advanced components to his offensive game that should continue to trend upwards as he matures.
