Norcal Player of the Week: Colin Barber

2019 OF Colin Barber of Pleasant Valley HS has been named the PBR Northern California Player of the Week for April 22-28, 2019. Barber, ranked #14 among California's 2019 class and #118 nationally, is one of the top Northern California high school prospects for the 2019 MLB Draft. Last fall he signed with the University of Oregon. His future is certainly bright, whether at the D1 level or as a professional prospect but presently he's locked in an leading the 18-3 Pleasant Valley Vikings to a stellar season as they chase a CIF Northern Section title.

Last week the Vikings swept Red Bluff HS in a three game conference series and Barber was in the middle of the offensive action. He went 4-for-5, scored 7 runs, homered twice, drove in 9 runs, and walked an astounding 10 times over the three games. Now, some may not consider the walks as impressive, however, given that he often has scouts in attendance, Barber is clearly focused on team success and not chasing. He is taking the walk and when he gets a pitch to hit, he's done damage.

For the season Barber is hitting a robust .466 in 88 plate appearances, scored 35 runs in 20 games played, driven in 33, has 4 doubles and 8 home runs. He's walked 27 times (1 HBP) vs just 6 strikeouts. His OBP is .625, slugging .948, which adds up to an OPS of 1.573. For good measure Barber is 6-for-6 in stolen base attempts.
