The Uncommitted Spotlight Series continues as we have started the '24 CIF High School baseball season Prep Baseball California is now highlighting some of the top uncommitted class of '25 athletes. The players featured are pulled directly from our '25 Class Rankings. These JR year players are ones that college coaches and fans should be keeping their eyes on over the coming months.
We invite you to get to know them through the eyes of our Prep Baseball California staff of scouts and the data-backed numbers collected at our events with our partnered companies. TrackMan, Blast Motion, Swift Performance, and Visual Edge provide comparable data to project and evaluate players. All of these systems come together to give a clear picture at what colleges will get when a players steps onto their campus.
Today, we put the spotlight on a SoCal '25 C/2B Kai Chang from Arlington High School. The inland empire product Chang has a compact frame with some present strength to it at 5'9 175 lbs and shows the actions behind the plate to stay there long term while adding versatility as a solid MINF defender. With a direct RH swing that shows quickness and strength in the hand path at 20.7 MPH hand speed with some torque generated in the turn showing 14.5 G's of rotational acceleration. Chavez has shown sneaky raw power at Prep Baseball California events with a max exit velocity at 93.5 MPH while averaging 83.3 MPH with a max distance of 310' that will play as doubles power to the middle of the park. The arm shows potential behind the plate with a clean transfer, 78 MPH C arm velocity with consistent pop times in the 1.99-2.08 range with accuracy to the bag or 1B side, but cleaning up how his lower 1/2 and feet work with help to continue to improve his throwing potential behind the plate. Shows solid glove work and feel to present pitches effectively. College programs who are looking for quality defensive options behind the plate in the '25 class with offensive upside that can add length to a lineup should add Chang to their recruiting boards and keep tabs on him the rest of this spring/summer headed into his SR year next fall.
College coaches and fans be sure to click on Chang's profile to see full video and statistics.
