All of these systems come together to give a clear picture at what colleges will get when a players steps onto their campus.
Today, we put the spotlight on a SoCal high school product in the #104 ranked player in California '25 INF/RHP Joshua Woodworth from Ventura High School. Woodworth stands an imposing 6'3 205 lbs and shows the actions on the INF dirt to handle either 3B/1B and with the athleticism to profile to an OF corner (standout TE for the Ventura HS football team) and was a member of the Team USA 15U National Team as a RHP who features a lively FB with a power breaking ball and feel for a sound CHG. Woodworth has been a 4-year starter at Ventura High as both an RH hitting infielder and one of their prominent arms. He missed time with an injury during his JR. campaign in 2024 that carried through the summer and might have caused him to slip off the radar of some college programs. He came back healthy to have an All-League Football season in fall of 2024 and is now showing his immense talent as a fully healthy SR. for the Cougars baseball program as they hunt a Channel League baseball title (Woodworth helped power a 2022 Pacific View League title team as a FR.).
The operation at the plate features phsyicality with rotational strength in his swing that connects early with a strong turn through the zone and an uphill bat path producing loft with carry from line to line. As a SR. Woodworth has shown better adjustability to handle different locations in the zone and spin raising an already strong RH hitting offensive profile. As well, back healthy he has been the utilized as the high leverage relief option for a Ventura High School squad that has a talented pitching staff. The biggest key for Woodworth on the mound has been the return of his quality FB velocity reaching 91 MPH in an early season look for me and has started to bump 92-93 MPH again as he builds back his strength (did not pitch from April of 2024 until February of 2025). In addition, his breaking ball showed the powerful life/shape it did as a younger player which helped earn him a spot on the Team USA 15U National Team living at 77-80 MPH with tight vertical depth inducing whiff/chase from hitters. Prior to his shutdown in 2024 Woodworth had shown an intriguing low 80's CHG with heavy arm side fade and tumble in a live look which he threw with FB arm speed to provide deception against RH hitters.
Over his High School career Woodworth has produced an intriguing stat line both on the offensive and pitching side of the game. In 2022 as a FR. Woodworth slashed .343/.422/.529 with seven doubles and two homers while leading the staff with 63 IP, 74 Ks, 1.22 ERA and allowed only 42 hits to opposing batters. He then backed up that stat line as a Soph. by slashing .301/.374/.440 while again collecting seven doubles with two homers while throwing 16 IP with 29 Ks a 1.75 ERA and earning a win and two saves. For his JR. campaign prior to his injury Woodworth posted a slash line of .288/.456/.559 while walking more than he struck out and posted four doubles with four homers in about 3/4 of the season. On the mound that year he dominated for the 30.2 innings he threw with an ERA at .91 with three wins and 23 Ks with just 16 hits allowed. Now about halfway through his SR. year he is slashing .396/.455/.667 with four doubles and three homers on the spring and is back throwing with lively stuff on the bump striking out 12 over seven innings so far on the spring in high leverage relief and has allowed just two hits to the 25 batters he has faced on the spring.
Consistently high level performance, physicality in his frame, sound athleticism, a realistic two-way potential profile as a RH hitter with impact and a RHP with a floor of being a high leverage reliever, but shows a strong starting potential profile Woodworth is going to be a fantastic land for a college program late in the 2025 class with plenty of ability to impact their program for his time on campus.

Scouting Report
One of the top uncommitted players in the state for the 2025 class, Woodworth has continually performed at a high level when I’ve seen him in person (5th live look in the last 12 months) as both a RH hitter and RH pitcher. The frame has continued to loosen up (Woodworth played TE for the VHS football team), but he is shaping well into a looser, more baseball looking body which is helping his actions as a position player. The swing is strength based for Woodworth with a quality turn and sequences well with his body while working uphill through the zone with his bat path. Woodworth has shown a quality approach over the multiple looks staying within the strike zone on his swing decisions (5 BB / 5 Ks on spring so far) with a solid feel for his barrel (minimal whiff) and appears able to recognize spin out of the zone well. He can go line to line with hard impact and has adjustability to work to different quadrants of the strike zone for contact. Woodworth posted another multiple hit day including a solid single to RF on a down and away pitch to drive a run. His actions moving around at 3B looked noticeably more comfortable and the arm is looser/cleaner when throwing with solid accuracy to his throws.
Physical, athletic two-way/two-sport standout who missed significant time in JR. year with an unfortunate injury showed his stuff is still strong with an intriguing offensive profile. At the plate there is strength in the swing path with solid present bat speed and Woodworth drilled a drive to RCF at Ventura HS showing his all-fields power potential (was robbed on a spectacular play by the Saugus RF). As well, came on in the 7th showing the arm potential is still there with his FB working 88-90 MPH while touching 91 MPH in his first game outing in almost nine months while dropping in a power CB in the 76-79 MPH range picking up one K with four whiffs from the Saugus hitters. Control was not polished, but he was around the zone with his FB misses and should improve as he gets more comfortable pitching in game again.
