VENTURA, CALIF. - The Uncommitted Spotlight Series returns as we officially have begun the 2025 CIF High School baseball for the 2025 spring. With than in mind Prep Baseball California will continue highlighting some of the top uncommitted class of '26 athletes for college programs to be following throught the spring schedule and into the summer. The player featured today is one of the top players in the state of California and figures prominently in our Class of 2026 Rankings.
We invite you to get to know them through the eyes of our Prep Baseball California staff of scouts both through our in person looks at players and/or the data-backed numbers collected at our events with our partnered companies. TrackMan, Blast Motion, and VALD Performance provide comparable data to project and evaluate players. All of these systems come together to give a clear picture at what colleges will get when a players steps onto their campus.
Today, we put the spotlight on the #111 ranked player in the 2026 class in SoCal '26 OF Erick Barron from Buena High School in the Ventura, Calif.. The RH hitting CF defender put together a solid Soph. campaign on the varsity level where he started in CF and hit near the top of the Bulldogs lineup. Posting a slash line of .259/.362/.320 while leading his team in hits with 21 and runs scored with 13 he also added three doubles and one triple to the season with a respectable 11 BB / 17 K ratio plus leading the team with 19 stolen bases in 26 games played. His solid season earned him an invite to the Future Games Tryout: Ventura County where he put together an impressive showing that earned him a spot on Team California at the 2024 Prep Baseball Future Games where he had a solid showing. Then returned to the Prep Baseball California event platform with an outstanding showing at the 2025 Central California Preseason All State with a pair of rocketed balls in game and solid workout. It's a collection of solid tools across the board that make up a high quality profile for Barron who still has upside remaining to raise his profile even higher in the future.
Standing 5'11 and checking in with a frame that continues to add strength now at 190 lbs. he shows present solid athletic ability in his profile with a 7.08 60 time while posting 1.74 10-yard / 3.95 30-yard splits at his best with a 19.6 MPH max run speed. His athletic ability gives him solid 3 position versatility around the OF to go with solid present arm strength that has room to develop more as he continues to mature and get stronger posting a 83 MPH OF arm velocity and he is a solid defender at 1B on the INF dirt, but I personally like his OF profile.
His solid Soph. season stats have been backed up by consistently good showings at our events. It's a compact and direct RH swing tha has a simple operation in the box with a knee-cock load and coil of the upper body before uncorking a tight quick turn with a bat to ball approach that is starting to show increased impact. On Blast Motion the RH hitting Barron has posted bat speed up to 65.2 MPH while showing high quality hand speed at 18.8 MPH with a turn that generates up to 13 Gs of rotational acceleration. During his various batting practice sessions Barron has demonstrated improving impact in the profile with a solid feel for his barrel/hard contact. He has posted a top end exit velocity at 91.5 MPH while averaging 82 MPH with a personal best presently of 331' on his max distance and a 62% sweet spot rate. His swing path and approach showed well in delivering the bat to the ball with a mixture of hard contact in the air and on the ground posting between 50%-80% Flyball-Line Drive rates in three different events. He appears at present to be best suited for a gap to gap high contact doubles approach, but the emerging strength in his profile and with some tweaks to the operation in the box there is plenty of reason to project possible pull side power in his future which would raise his offensive profile even higher.
With a solid offensive profile that has performed at a solid rate on the varsity level early in his High School career, but has intriguing upside and showing versatility, but profiling as a long term CF option there is plenty to like about this rising '26 from the Central Coast of California. College coaches would be wise to be following Barron for their 2026 recruiting classes.

Scouting Report
Erick Barron, Buena High (CA), 2026
Positional Profile: OF/1B Well rounded player who shows CF defensive profile with instincts and solid upside. Interesting offensive upside with a high contact line drive approach that continues to add more impact with maturity.
Body: 5-11, 190-pounds. Solidly built athletic frame with emerging strength and room to fill
Hit: RHH. Slightly wider set up with feet and medium crouch into his knees and hinged at the hips. High back elbow with the hands set about ear height near his head with barrel angled towards LF foul pole. Utilized a no stride load by cocking his front knee and sitting into back leg to get his weight loaded. Hands slightly drop into the slot before uncorking his swing. Turns well in the middle of his body with quickness and an accurate barrel. Hands are direct to the ball with the barrel leverage through the zone generating hard contact consistently. 61.5 mph bat speed with 8 G's of rotational acceleration.
Power: 91 max exit velocity, averaged 82.0 mph. 298' max distance. Line to line hard contact hitter who shows the ability to leverage the ball with carry to the middle of the field that shows present doubles power. Solid top end EV with room to add.
Arm: RH. INF-79 mph. OF-82 mph. Medium length arm action with quickness in the path. More accuracy than pure strength, but shows online carry with room to handle CF/LF and 1B.
Defense: Shows good instincts for the ball in the air and on the ground with efficient routes and footwork that make him a strong defender with room to continue adding dynamic actions to be impactful. Solid CF defender with versatility.
ATH: 7.30 runner in the 60. Vertical runner who builds speed as he goes with good body control.
Barron is another player who may not light up the metrics board during the workout with his tools, but is sound across the board. What the 2024 Prep Baseball Future Games alum does when the game starts is simply perform and play high level baseball. Barron is more of a high contact hitter who wears out the OF grass/turf with hard line drives from line to line from simple operation in the box. What Barron showed in the High Desert was the his continued development to his approach, physical strength and ability to get the ball in the air with authority is starting to tap into his impact potential as a hitter. He reached new personal bests in bat speed which is up to 65.2 MPH with consistent accuracy on the barrel to ball which helped him reach 91.5 MPH on max EV another personal best to go with a few other upward ticks in his tools. As noted those numbers may not jump of the plate, but the play at a very high level in games which despite not getting a hit came with a pair of hard hit line drives to CF that showed improved carry to his contact quality through the middle of the field. The arrow on Barron continues to point up as he is a strong consistent performer whose tools/strength/athleticism all continue to trend upwards.
Erick Barron, Buena High (CA), 2026
Positional Profile: OF/1B Bat to ball RH hitter who shows feel for barrel with high contact approach and 3 position OF defensive profile
Body: 6-0, 185-pounds. Athletic frame that shows some present strength to it across lower/upper body with room to fill
Hit: RHH. Wider set up with feet slightly open crouched in his legs with hip hinge. High back elbow with hands set even to the rear shoulder and slightly off the body and barrel tips back over his head angled toward 3B dugout Utilizes a very small step into the launch position with a knee cock to his front knee while incorporating a barrel tip to load hands. Lands early with a slight pause before beginning swing. Uses the lower 1/2 to generate torque in the turn while displaying quickness to his hand path with an accurate bat to ball approach. Generates consistent contact off the barrel with some impact. Two handed finish with leverage gets the ball in the air with some carry.
Power: Approach is tailored to high contact with a bat to ball swing path that sprays line drives around the field, but flashes impact to the pull side. Power plays mostly as doubles presently, but frame projects HR potential.
Arm: RH. OF-83 mph. Incorporates a small crow hop during the transfer with some length to his arm circle before releasing from a higher slot which generates online carry to his throws. Shows accuracy with consistency to his throws.
Defense: Moves well around the OF with a solid fundamental base, good routes and instincts for the ball in the air. CF upside with ability to play either corner OF spot.
ATH: Quick first step who builds to top speed efficiently while maintaining length and quickness to his strides.
