Preseason All-State: Rising Stars - Quick Hits

EMERSON, GA - The Prep Baseball Georgia staff hosted the Preseason All-State Rising Stars event on March 1st. This event was an opportunity to see a talented group of 2029-2030 players. These players went through extended pro-style workout that included batting practice using Trackman, ran the 60 yard dash using VALD Performance, and much more. Pitchers were able to throw short bullpens with Trackman.This event is a chance for us to see the up and coming talent in the state. Today we will take a look at the leaderboards from our traditional stats collected at the event. Be on the lookout for more in dept analysis later this week.

Uncommitted. 6-foot-1, 146-pounds. Lean, athletic and projectable frame with tools on display on the mound, shows demand with his fastball in the upper 70’s, topping at 79. Curveball in the mid to upper 60’s while flashing a changeup in the upper 60’s. Showed a strong feel for the barrel and a solid swing that synced up nicely and drove the ball well pull-side and up the middle. Strong arm from the outfield with athletic movements and actions.

Tyler Hickman, C/RHP, 2029, Cartersville
Uncommitted. 5-foot-10, 197-pounds. Advanced feel for the barrel as his batting practice round was electric. Generated back-spin on fly balls and line-drives that showed carry to all parts of the field. Pull-side power with a mature approach and a swing that syncs up nicely, displays leverage throughout. Strong and physical build with dominant lower-half. Athletic movements behind the dish, blocks it up and shows quick feet on throw-downs to second. A name to know as the tools continue to develop.

Langston Williams, SS, 2029, Galloway School
Athletic, 5-foot-6 frame. Williams put together a strong all around day, kicking things off with a 7.25 60-yard dash. He then put together a strong round of batting practice with a max exit velocity of 79.8 and max distance of 259ft. He had a strong barrel through the zone with fast hands. In the infield he displayed some of the cleanest actions of the day with smooth, athletic movement.

Reid Williams, OF/LHP, 2029, Bulloch Academy
A lean, athletic 5-foot-10, 147-pounds. Williams showed an intriguing skill set in many facets. Started the day off by running a 7.27-60. As well putting together a solid round in batting practice by staying well-leveraged and showing a strong feel for the barrel. An athletic mover on the mound, Williams displayed a really good feel to land all 4 of his pitches with feel for spin as well. Fastball at 72-74 with the changeup in the upper 60s to 70. Curveball and slider mix held good shape in the mid 60s.

Bates Harrison, SS/RHP, 2029, Statesboro
5-foot-8, 145-pounds. Harrison put together an all-around impressive day at Rising Stars All-State. Opening the day with an excellent showing in the 60-yard dash running a 7.21. At the plate, the LHH stays simple and compact to the ball as consistent hard contact was found while working up the middle of the field. Resulting in a max exit-velocity of 87.8. On the mound, Harrison showed a strong arm within a three pitch-mix. The fastball showed late-life with some arm-side run. Presented the slider at 65-66 that held good shape with a good feel to land. Worked in the changeup at 71-75.

Carson Thieme, SS/RHP, 2029, Athens Academy
5-foot-11, 156-pounds. Thieme compiled strong stats across the board on Saturday afternoon. Opened the day by running one of the event best 60 times with a 7.01. At the plate, the RHH stays compact to deliver a well-leveraged barrel while creating good separation. As well as showing a strong feel for the barrel, which resulted in a max exit-velocity of 87.1. On the mound, Thieme worked with a three pitch-mix. FB was shown at 77-78, CB was flipped over at 67-68, and the CH was thrown at 68-71.

Ross Christy, OF/2B , 2029, Bragg Middle School (AL)
5-foot-9, 167-pounds. It was an electric showing from Christy, as he posted some of the best overall numbers at the event. Clocking at 6.71-60 time which was an event best. He would then follow up the 60 by posting a second best event metric with a max exit-velocity of 91.5 as well as the event best max distance at 330 FT. In the box, Christy showed an aptitude to work to all-fields. By delivering a well-leveraged barrel and creating good separation at the plate the ball jumped off the bat displaying present impact out front. Loud tools already litter the profile at just 14 years old, as this is a name we could easily see in Late July at Junior Future Games.

Jordan Bryneston, OF, 2029, Dacula
The lean, high-waisted 6-foot-2, 168-pound OF really looked the part from the moment he stepped on the field. The immediate athleticism stood out as he started off the day by clocking at a 6.99 60-yard dash time. Bryneston would then head over for batting practice and post a max exit-velocity of 87. By getting on time with a controlled leg lift, Bryneston was able to work to all fields with great length in the zone. Along with creating good separation at the plate and displaying a good feel for the barrel with present bat speed to match.

Paxton Jennings, SS, 2029, Harlem
Jennings was a stand out in each category it felt like on Saturday afternoon. The athletic 5-foot-10, 135-pound SS would start the day off by running an impressive 7.25-60. Would then follow it up by showing a strong round of batting practice. At the plate, Jennings shows great length in-zone with clear feel for the barrel which results in solid contact through the zone. Would finish the round with a max exit velocity of 83.3. The SS was also a standout in the field with clean actions throughout with present arm strength to match. Putting forth a max infield velocity of 77. Jennings didn’t stop there though he would then head over to the mound and continue to impress. The FB sat 76-78 and topped at 78.4. The CH was shown at 71-73, and the curveball was thrown at 63-64.

Easton Chen, C/RHP, 2029, Walton
5-foot-10, 172-pounds. Starting off the day Chen would run a stellar 60 clocking in at a 7.26. Then following up the 60, Chen would head behind the plate for defense where he exhibited smooth athletic actions throughout with clean transfers and solid footwork. Resulting in a 2.28 pop time and a catcher velocity of 72. Also showed the ability to block baseballs well in the dirt. During batting practice, the RHH displayed a good feel for the barrel with easy leverage through the zone, while creating separation to find consistent hard contact to the pull-side. Which resulted in a 81.2 max exit velocity. On the mound Chen worked with a FB/CB pitch-mix. The FB lived 72-75 and topped at 76 with arm-side run and feel to land to either half of the plate. The CB was flipped over at 65-68.

Holden Borland, RHP/LHP, 2029, South Forsyth
Uncommitted. 6-foot-0, 160-pounds. Extremely fun player to watch, projectable frame with ambidextrous features on the mound. Showing mid 80’s fastballs from both sides of the mound, ability to land the breaking balls from either side and a changeup in the mid to low 70’s. Solid round of batting practice also, hard contact and low line drives with pull-side power. Going to be a name to know as he continues to grow and develop.

Uncommitted. 6-foot-1, 149-pounds. Hit tools were on display as his round of batting practice was lively. Showed the ability to get carry on all line drives and fly balls with pull-side power and a swing that shows an all-fields approach. Above average feel for the barrel and syncs up nicely. Strong arm in the outfield as well with good range and solid foot-work.

Ashton Brown, OF, 2029, Sprayberry
5-foot-9 147-pounds. Brown kicked off the day with the 2nd fastest 60-yard dash time of the day at 6.77. He is an athletic mover and the speed translates into the outfield with quick feet and athletic actions. Simple approach at the plate with easy rhythm and timing. Connected for consistent barrels with a max EV of 80.8. Brown is going to be one to follow the next years as he heads into high school.

Brant Davis, OF/RHP, 2029, PCA
5-foot-9 143-pounds. Davis showcased some of the biggest arm strength of the day. He posted the top OF velo of 84 with a strong pulldown and accurate throws. He has been into the low-mid 80’s over the fall and will be on to watch on the mound. The delivery is still raw, but the arm really works with feel for spin. He also posted a 7.07 60-yard dash.

Carson Clark, C, 2029, Cambridge
6-foot-2 194-pounds. The 2024 Junior Future Gamer was one of the few 13u kids on the 14u team last year. The biggest take away from Saturday was the added strength and development leading to improvements in his metrics. The 60 went from a 7.74 to a 7.39. The max exit velocity at the plate went from 83.3 to 91.1. It is always great to see young players and their progression. Clark is going to be a power threat at the dish for years to come.
