Group 4 State Tournament: Day 2-3 Wrap up

The second round of the NJSIAA State Tournament wrapped up with plenty of excitement across all brackets. Each bracket featured four games, narrowing the field down to just four teams remaining in each. The second round delivered its fair share of upsets, as lower-seeded teams rose to the occasion and knocked off favorites. There were also standout performances from both teams and individual players, setting the tone for what promises to be an intense and competitive tournament. The action picks back up tomorrow with the semifinal round, as the remaining teams look to take one step closer to the ultimate goal: winning two more games and being crowned state champion. Today, we will be taking a look at the results from last week's group 4 games.
NORTH 1 BRACKET
+ In the North 1 bracket, Ridgewood topped Belleville 10-0 and Morristown upset third seeded Mount Olive 7-4. Passaic Tech beat Hackensack 7-1 to advance to the semifinals.
NORTH 2 BRACKET
+ In the North 2 bracket, top seeded Ridge blanked Bridgewater Raritan 3-0 while fourth seeded Elizabeth bested Phillipsburg 4-2. In th bottom half of the bracket, third seeded Westfield beat 11th seeded Ferris 6-1 and second seeded Woodbridge topped seventh seeded Columbia 2-1.
CENTRAL BRACKET
+ The top of the central bracket of group 4 saw two upsets. Ninth seeded Hillsborough beat top seeded Hunterdon Central 3-1 while 12th seeded Montgomery beat fourth seeded Hightstown, 5-4. Edison advanced to the semifinals with a 4-2 win over 11th seeded Franklin while second seeded Old Bridge slid passed 10th seeded Manalapan, 1-0. Pace U. commit Justin Hascup went the distance for OB, scattering five hits and striking out 11 without walking a batter.
SOUTH BRACKET
+ Top seeded Cherokee handled its business versus eighth seeded Howell 10-0. Cooper Burti, Alex Odud, Brett Jackson, and Mason Kelleher all homered for the Chief in the rout. Fourth seeded Kingsway ran away with one versus 12th seeded Cherry Hill East, 14-2. Vineland advanced with a 4-0 win over Gloucester Tech and Eastern snuck passed Egg Harbor Township 4-3 on a walk-off single.
