Putting together a ranking is a process and naturally creates debate. After seeing members of the 2016 class over the course of several months, I compiled the PBR Draft 100. It went through a few versions before becoming the list you see now. After lining players up, I changed my mind on some, consulted with co-workers about the order and sought the feedback of scouts. Anytime I put a list together, I get random thoughts or ideas about the makeup of it. For instance, there might be a school with an abnormal amount of commitments in the top 100. Or maybe there seems to be more catchers than usual.

One year, a crosschecker replied that I had too many pitchers listed. That got me thinking, what is the positional breakdown of the top 100 high school picks? Granted, that question is a little different than what the ranking is meant to be. Players don’t always get picked where they’re ranked for various reasons. But the data can be interesting to look at. So I went through the last 15 drafts (2001-2015), using Baseball Reference, and pulled out the top 100 high school picks in each.
