Pacific Northwest Preseason ID - Quick Hits

Dylan Grenz
Associate Scout

On Saturday February 22nd, Prep Baseball PNW hosted the Pacific Northwest Preseason ID at The Hub Sports Complex in Centralia, WA. Prep Baseball scouts evaluated WA and OR high school athletes in the 2025-2029 graduating classes, with several strong showings throughout the event.

Preseason ID events serve as an identifier heading into the spring high school season, providing Prep Baseball scouts and college recruiters a list of prospects to follow as they plan their spring coverage. We also tend to see prospects’ best performances in the preseason, as most athletes are fresh and coming off of strict and targeted off-season training programs that have resulted in big gains. Standout performances can lead to invitations to some of the summer's biggest invite-only events, including the Pacific Northwest State Games, Prep Baseball Future Games, and more.

Today, Prep Baseball releases our Quick Hits, detailing scouting notes on standout players from the event. Players are listed alphabetically by last name. For all other post-event content, click here

Quick Hits

'28 RHP/1B Nolan Barrett (O'Dea, WA)
Physicality present in 6'4, 200 pound frame. Arm stands out currently with whippy, loose arm action and some deception created with a lower-slot release. FB played to bottom of the zone, sitting 80-82 MPH. CH/SL have potential with development and increased arm speed. Posted a peak exit velocity of 91.1 MPH at the plate from the right hand side. Long levered swing. Makes the routine play at 1B. Arm to watch.

'28 LHP/1B Max Bergford (Gig Harbor, WA)
Another freshman with advanced physicality in 6'4 frame. Showcased a four-pitch mix on the mound from the left hand side, creating ideal starter mold with repeatable delivery. FB already up to 82 MPH with more velocity to get. Sinks into lower half through delivery. Shorter path to swing at the plate for frame, hits to all fields with a peak exit velocity of 97.1 MPH.

'27 LHP Jack Burnham (Wells, OR)
Impressive showing from sophomore arm. 6'5 frame with projection. Stays tall in delivery with jumps in metrics across the board. FB sat mostly 81-83 but did jump up to 84.2 MPH at its peak. CH/CB offspeed combination with lower spin rates playing well to bottom of the zone. Both FB/CH generated heavy horizontal movement, should miss barrels. Exciting growth.

'25 SS/RHP Lucas Culbertson (Glencoe, OR)
Senior arm was among the hardest throwers on the day, running the FB up to 87.4 MPH. CH/CB offspeed combination, CB with 12/6 action. Some natural athleticism present, ran a 7.08 60-yard dash time. Posted a 95.7 MPH peak exit velocity at the plate from the right hand side. Uncommitted multi-sport athlete to keep an eye on this spring.

'28 INF Evan Guadalupe (Summit, OR)
A top-ten freshman in the Oregon 2028 player rankings. Quiet pre-pitch setup at the plate with vertical barrel into short, direct hand path. Drove the ball on a line and in the air, with a peak exit velocity of 94.9 MPH and a max batted ball distance of 357 feet. Smooth defender with plenty of arm for any infield spot, already peaking with an 83 MPH INF throw. Must-follow moving forward.

'26 1B Blake Gunderson (Graham Kapowsin, WA)
Stocky medium frame had one of the loudest BP showings on the day. Led the event with a 100.5 MPH peak exit velocity and a 386 foot max batted ball distance. Some bat speed through the zone with easy gap power. Some range shown at 1B, can move well to both forehand and backhand. 77 MPH throws across the diamond.

'26 OF AJ Larsen (Bainbridge Island, WA)
Athletic medium frame with well-rounded showing. Larger leg lift load as head remains quiet throughout. Line drive approach with some gap power. Peak exit velocity of 95.6 MPH with a max batted ball distance of 358 feet. Long strider in the outfield, fields over lead leg and carries momentum through throws. 7.15 60-yard dash time. Important piece at the top of Bainbridge's lineup this spring.

'25 RHP Cash Martin (McNary, OR)
Senior arm showed well, sitting 85-86 MPH with the FB throughout bullpen showing. CH in the mid 70's flashed at times and CB at 70-72 showed some sharp bite downward. Works from wider, balanced base in set. Tight, compact arm action with over-top release. Strong lead leg block and finish. Uncommitted senior arm to circle.

'26 INF/RHP Lucas Miller (Bonney Lake, WA)
One of the best showings of the event, particularly at the plate. Balanced setup from the RH side with a toe tap load. Extends to meet ball out front with firm front side at contact. Late uphill finish with bat speed. Peak exit velocity of 99.1 MPH with a max batted ball distance of 375 feet were major jumps since previous look. Also featured three pitch mix on the mound, with a FB up to 81 MPH and a CH with a great ability to kill spin. Solid performance.

'28 RHP/OF Albertino Pozzo (Mercer Island, WA)
Metrically, one of the best bullpens seen this preseason. Freshman ran the FB up to 84 MPH with over 2500 RPM on average. CB/SL were two distinct offspeed offerings, both with spin rates north of 2500 as well. The slider in particular showed well with depth and a peak spin rate of 2802 RPM. Also showed a sound RH swing, on the barrel consistently with a peak exit velocity of 93.2 MPH and average of 87.0 MPH. Quiet confidence in game.

'26 RHP Jinki Tomita (Grant, OR)
Ultra-smooth delivery junior arm ran the FB up to 86 MPH, sitting 84-85. Flashed an impressive splitter as best offspeed pitch, with an average spin rate of just 723 RPM causing a tumbling action. SL/CH showcased as well, both in the mid-70's. Starters mold with durability and strike throwing ability.

'25 RHP/OF Alexander Via (Summit, OR/Portland commit)
High-end arm in Oregon. FB peaked at an event-best 89.5 MPH, with an average spin rate north of 2400 RPM. Changeup/sinker both had fading action, but slider with over 2700 RPM on average was best offspeed pitch. Also had an event-best 90 MPH throw from the outfield. Flatter approach at the plate, got to pull side in BP rounds with a peak exit velocity of 92.9 MPH. High motor player.

'26 LHP/1B Riley Young (RA Long, WA)
Junior had one of the best all-around performances. Utilized strong 6'0 frame to generate bat speed through the zone. Peaked with a 97.8 MPH exit velocity, averaging 89.0 MPH. 7.13 second 60-yard dash time, played 1B defensively but athletic enough to play the OF as well. On the mound, lefty sat 82-84 MPH with the FB, topping out at 85.2 MPH. CH/CB both in the low 70's were offspeed combination. Junior to circle.
