The final Preseason I.D. showcase of the 2019 calendar is in the rear view mirror and attention will soon be thrusted towards the 2019 WIAA season. Before the swing of spring, we will break down plenty of eye opening performances from our event this past weekend in Madison.

The Madison Preseason I.D. was hosted on Sunday, March 10, seeing 180-plus prospects walk through the doors at GRB Academy in Windsor, WI. Yesterday we provided a quick snapshot of the top performances that caught our eye in our Quick Hits post. We continue our event analysis today, taking a dive into the statistical side of things.

We will continue our coverage from the largest winter preseason event of 2019 in the coming weeks, breaking down the notes position by position, but for now here is our statistical analysis.

OF Jacyk Uehling (South Milwaukee, 2020) set the standard in the 60-yard dash and a quick one at that, breaking the lasers in 6.60 seconds. Uehling also finished in the top three of his positional velocity testing hitting 91 mph from the outfield.

The most impressive statistical category on the day was top fastball velocity, hands down. Three 2020 RHP pitching prospects tied for the lead all touching 92 mph in the their bullpen session. Those names being: Tyler Chadwick (Marshall HS, West Virginia commit), George Klassen (Port Washington HS, Purdue commit) and Will Semb (DePere HS, Iowa commit). Two more 2020s in LHP Ryan Stefiuk (Green Bay Pebble HS, Vanderbilt commit) and RHP Joe Houser (Waunakee, Uncommitted) tied for second, two ticks behind the leaders at 90 mph. 2022 prospect RHP Brendan Strenke (Turtle Lake) made a huge splash for himself running his heater up to 89 mph, a trait uncanny for an incoming Freshman.

Klassen and Hauser both showcased their all around athleticism placing their names in the top 60-yard dash categories. Klassen finished second at 6.69 seconds and Hauser eighth at 6.89 seconds, respectively. Before Klassen took the mound, he tossed seeds at 98 mph from the outfield topping the leaderboard while setting a Wisconsin showcase record in the outfield velocity testing.

A pair of 2020s in OFer Spencer Bartel (Sun Prairie) and INFer Riley Zirbel (Lake Mills) both crossed the 60-yard dash line at a respectable 6.75 seconds, good for a third place tie.

A trio of uncommitted prospects led the exit velocity testing on the day. C Thomas Otto (Appleton North, 2020) was the lone prospect to crack the 100 mph threshold hitting 101 mph from a tee. RHP/INF Nick Smith (Waunakee, 2020) and INF Liam Moreno (Sun Prairie, 2021) tied for second at 97 mph apiece. Smith also fell within the max fastball leaderboard (87 mph) and the infield velocity leaderboard (86 mph) capping off a solid all-around day.

Uncommitted 2020 Taiten Manriquez (Waunakee) stood alone atop the infield velocity testing throwing 88 mph beebees across the diamond. Fellow Waunakee teammates Hauser and Moreno, both mentioned above, finished right behind him at 87 mph and 86 mph, respectively.

Uncommitted RHP/OF Mitchell Alba (Franklin, 2020) showed off his arm talent topping 93 mph from the outfield, good for second, while rounding out the max fastball leaderboard touching 87 mph.

2021 catcher Anthony Vivian (Dodgeville) just edged out 2020 catcher Matthew DePrey (Sun Prairie) for best pop time at 1.93 seconds from the crouch, thanks to a lower range. Adam Casali (Middleton, 2020) tied with DePrey in catcher velocity, both hitting 78 mph down to second. All three players are uncommitted.
