X-FACTOR
Coming off of a strong 2024, LHP/1B Joe Suokko (2025; Wisconsin-Parkside) enters his senior year with the opportunity to do big things for the Falcons on both sides of the ball. At 6’4” 210lbs, the lefty has a projectable frame that he uses to his advantage on the mound, throwing with ease and repeatability out of a high ¾ slot. The senior has shown some sneaky athleticism in past events, running a 7.16 in the 60-yard dash in 2024. On the mound, Suokko has shown a strong feel for the zone at past events. He throws a mid-to-high 80s fastball with a pair of secondary offerings: a high 70s changeup with late arm side fade, and a mid 70s CB with 11/5 bite. While he may not entirely have had the year he wanted at the plate last year, there is a good amount of power potential in the bat that any lineup would be happy to have. If he can continue to improve on his in-game power and build off his 2024 season, Joe Suokko could play a big part in Westosha Centrals’ success at the plate.
IMPACT UNDERCLASSMEN
RHP Anthony Sirocchi (2027) enters the season with a chance to make a name for himself this season and stake his claim as one of the top arm talents in Wisconsin. At 6’0” 180lbs, Sirocchi is very physically strong and moves down the mound with ease. We saw him earlier this winter in South Milwaukee, where he displayed a lively three pitch mix. His arsenal is led by a mid 80s fastball that topped out at 89, which was 8 mph higher than what we saw from him back in March of 2024. The sophomore has a good feel for spin on the fastball too, buzzing in on the hands of hitters. He has a pair of secondaries to play off the fastball: a mid 75-79 changeup with some arm side depth and fade, and a low 70s CB with two plane break. We expect Sirocchi to raise some eyebrows this season as he enters his first season at the varsity level.
TEAM OUTLOOK
"We feel we have a deep pitching staff and a talented group of kids that can compete at a very high level. We understand however that every season is different and we will have to attack each day and focus on getting better if we want to reach our potential.” - Jake Mormon, Head Coach
After a season of in which they reached the WIAA State Seminals, Westosha Central brings back every arm that pitched meaningful innings for the squad. With the success and experience they bring back to their staff, as well as a talented crop of underclassmen, the Falcons are in a good spot to repeat their success on the mound in 2025.
After throwing the most innings for Westosha Central in 2024, RHP Brody Schulte (2025; Minnesota State) comes off a successful junior campaign in which he threw 59.1 innings throughout the year with a 2.61 ERA. Standing at 6’5”, Schulte displays some projectability in his frame, and is athletic down the mound. He has a quality feel for a three-pix mix, and the Falcons will look to the senior to lead the staff this spring. Returning to the top of the rotation with Schulte is the previously mentioned Joe Suokko, and together they will be looked upon to lead the Falcons’ staff.
The aforementioned Anthony Sirocchi is likely to find some meanigful innings at the varsity level this year, with RHP Carson Sieler (2025; Milwaukee Area Technical College), RHP Max Nottingham (2025) both entering the season as strong options for Head Coach Jake Mormon to go to when they are not on the field. RHP Andrew Johnson (2026) is a junior arm that could potentially get his first look at the varsity level for Westosha Central this year.
RHP Michael Suokko (2027) is certainly a name to follow this season as he looks to get his first crack at the varsity level. The brother of Joe Suokko, M. Suokko features a similar build and plenty of projectability to dream on. At 6’4” 200lbs, M. Suokko has already plenty of strength throughout his body while still displaying some room to fill out. We saw the sophomore at South Milwaukee, showing a feel for a three-pitch mix that was highlighted by a mid 80s fastball (T88).
RHP Benjamin Smet-Cooper (2028) and RHP Tytus Nichter (2028) are two exciting freshmen arms on this Falcons' pitching staff. While they are likely lodged behind some of the older and more experienced names on the team, do not be surprised if either arm finds some varsity innings in a smaller capacity. Both are two names to keep an eye on going forward for this uber-deep Westosha Central staff.
While Westosha Central’s lineup may have lost more players than the rotation, there is still a lot of talent throughout this competetive lineup that has enough firepower to do some damage with the pitching staff.
INF Charlie Dietz (2025; Bryant & Stratton) and OF Carson Sieler both enter the spring as the most impactful bats returning from last season. Dietz is an athletic shortstop that plays well on both sides of the ball, and shows clean actions in the box. He hit .352 in a full season of work for the Falcons, and will hope to build off his junior campaign. Sieler was dominant at the plate last season, hitting .426 and driving in 25 runs in the process. Sieler also showed some speed on the basepaths, tied for the team with 16 stolen bases last season. Both seniors will be looked upon to continue to produce for this Falcon’s lineup.
OF Max Nottingham (2025) is likely to play a bigger role for the Falcons this season after finding success in 2024. In 57 plate appearances, Nottingham hit .341 across the year. With some key departures from last season, Westosha Central could potentially look to Nottingham to play a role in their success at the plate.
INF Jake Urban (2025), INF Evan Leafblad (2025), OF Wade Spoerl (2025), and C/OF MJ Scarbalis (2025) return for their senior seasons hoping to build off of last year. While Westosha Central has a very upperclassmen-heavy lineup, INF Nathan Corey (2027) and UTIL Nolan Woltersdorf (2027) are two underclassmen that could find their first varsity opportunities this spring.
BOTTOM LINE
The Falcons are in about as good a position as anyone to make a deep run in the playoffs thanks to a very talented pitching staff and competitive lineup. They have a strong blend of upside and experience throughout their rotation, and the excitement only builds up when you take into account the amount of talented underclassmen arms waiting to burst onto the scene at the high school level. If the bats can continue to produce, Westosha Central could see another long postseason run and be a very dangerous team come June.
