X-FACTOR

RHP/OF Cameron Carter (2026, Illinois-Chicago) returns as one of the top bats in the lineup, hitting .450 as a junior while playing strong defense in either corner position. Giving the Warhawks a capable bat to rely on entering the spring.

Carter can really impact the spring on the mound, one of the top right-handers in the state’s junior class and former Prep Baseball Future Games standout. Over the offseason Carter has made gains on the mound and has the talent to potentially fill the void left by the departure of Nolan Buss. Three pitch mix with a downhill fastball that reaches 91 mph with a S/M breaking ball and a heavy changeup off the fastball.

TEAM OUTLOOK

“An established and veteran pitching staff will pace Arrowhead. A smaller senior class will mean juniors and potentially sophomores will have to emerge offensively for us to mimic last year's successful state campaign.” – Nick Brengosz, head coach

The Warhawks return one of the top pitching staffs in the state, headlined by bonafide ace and MLB Draft prospect RHP Peter Kussow (2025, Louisville). Across 46 innings as a junior, Kussow struck out 68 batters while posting a .913 ERA on the season. The right-hander had elevated himself as one of the top prep right-handers in the country at the Super 60, armed with a mid-90s fastball with feel for two secondaries that play in the upper-80s, including one of the best breaking balls in the region.

Behind Kussow is the aforementioned Carter, but the rotation extends beyond them. Seniors LHP Tanner Buhlmann (2025, Wisconsin-Milwaukee) and RHP Jack Roventini (2025, Chandler-Gilbert CC) round off the rotation. Giving the Warhawks arguably the best collection of starting pitching in the state.

Buhlmann is a pitchability lefty that really competes in the zone with his entire arsenal, three pitch mix with a mid-80s fastball and innate feel to locate two secondaries, a low-70s breaking ball and a mid-70s changeup.

Roventini rounds off the rotation, another 90+ mph fastball for the Warhawks paired with a S/M slider that routinely plays in game. The senior returns to the staff after tossing 20.1 innings, holding opponents to a .147 batting average while finishing the season with a 2.06 ERA.

The depth out of the bullpen looks like a strength as well, with Buhlmann and Roventini available when needed along with RHP Graiden Liethen (2025), RHP Mason Chirafisi (2026) and RHP Brendan Foley (2026).

The majority of the lineup returns, with the aforementioned Carter playing a key role near the top of the order. C PJ Hamel (2025, McHenry County CC) will start behind the plate this year, the 6-foot-4 backstop has natural actions behind the plate. At the plate, the right-hander looks to do damage and can bring some added impact to the lineup and drive the run production.

The aforementioned junior Foley returns to the lineup after hitting .300 as a sophomore in limited action and is slated to be the everyday shortstop. Powerful athlete, one of the state’s top linebackers on the gridiron and an impact piece on both offense and defense.

Rounding off the lineup, OF Yamato Takahashi (2025, MIT) will patrol centerfield and is an upside bat with top of the order potential, along with INF Braden Loebel (2026) and OF Niko Frangopoulos (2026) and the aforementioned Leithen

Frangopoulos could work his way into the middle-of-the-order with a productive year. The left-handed hitter has shown repeated feel to drive the ball in the air with authority.

BOTTOM LINE

Led by a standout rotation, opposing offenses will have a tough time pushing runs across against yet another strong Arrowhead squad.
