Wausau Preseason ID: Quick Hits

On March 23nd, Prep Baseball Wisconsin hosted the first showcase held in Wausau at the state of the art Greenheck Turner Community Center in Westin, WI. Over 80 players from across the state met in the Wausau area to participate in this event, a Preseason ID that is providing our staff with need-to-know names and players to consider for future invite-only events, like the Prep Baseball Future Games, among others.
Today, we’ll be highlighting the players who stood out here within this Quick Hits piece. Stay tuned throughout the week as we continue to break down the in-depth metrics measured at this event, with the help of our tech partners TrackMan, Blast Motion, and Vizual Edge. Each of the players listed below are uncommitted unless stated otherwise.
POSITION PLAYERS
2025
+ An uncommitted senior from Sunday's event, OF Ethan Sillars (Wausau West, 2025), would have a solid all-around day, including a quality round of BP (T100.1 EV) and an event-best 86 mph outfield velocity. The right-handed hitter presents an open setup at the plate and showed the ability to stay behind the ball, creating backspin with quick and twitchy hands through contact. Defensively, the Wausau West product showed athletic, high-intent movements, creating momentum through the baseball. Strong and sturdy 6-foot-1, 225-pound frame.
2026
+ INF Zandyr Barke (Wittenberg-Birnawood, 2026) would take a quality round of infield, working through the baseball with a two-hand gather and shuffle step, while releasing from a whippy high 3/4s slot and showing an arm up to 83 mph from across the diamond. At the plate, the right-handed bat would find hard barrel contact throughout his round with a top EV of 86.7 mph. Projectable 5-foot-10, 145-pound frame.
+ INF Grady Chvosta (Slinger, 2026) would have a solid all-around, showing an ability to create line drive contact throughout his round of BP (T87.9 EV). Defensively the infielder showed fluid actions and footwork while showing carry on his throws across the diamond (T83 mph). 6-foot-1, 170-pound frame with wiry strength.
+ A recent attendee of our Madison Preseason ID event, C Silas Cronkrite (Wisconsin Rapids Lincoln, 2026), would continue to show well in front of our staff while taking a solid round of BP (T94.6 EV) and showed above-average catch-and-throw abilities with pop times as low as 2.01 on Sunday, but was as low as 1.96 at our Madison event. Cronkrite measured at 6-foot-1, 186-pound frame with present strength and athleticism and has plenty of room to add to his frame in the future providing upside to the profile.
+ OF/SS Maxwell Dolski (Waupaca, 2026) is a versatile right-handed bat who showed well throughout Sunday's event. At the plate, he presents a wider base with a loose and fluid bat path through contact while showing the ability to hit line drives to all fields and generate EVs up to 95.3 mph. The Waupaca product would work out as both an outfielder and infielder, showing confident actions at both positions and making accurate throws from a whippy 3/4 arm slot. Strong and sturdy 5-foot-11, 167-pound frame.
+ INF Teegan Karpinske (Appleton North, 2026) presents a 5-foot-10, 195-pound frame with present strength that showed well throughout his Sunday workout. At the plate, the right-handed bat presents a repeatable swing, showing an ability to hit low drives through the big part of the field, generating EVs up to 95.1 mph. Defensively, the third baseman would make strong accurate throws throughout his round and was up to 87 mph from across the diamond.
+ INF Mack Krause (Neenah, 2026) would show a natural feel to hit throughout his round of BP (T92.2 EV, avg 88.1 EV), with a natural swing sequence that utilized an all-fields approach and a quick, twitchy bat path through contact. His frame is strong 5-foot-10, 184-pound frame with remaining physical projection which should allow his metrics to tick up some. During infield work, Krause was super smooth and athletic providing a quality look to the reliable defender in the infield.
+ C Brennan Otto (Appleton North, 2026) showed out well on Sunday in Wausau. Otto hit with strong hands with a compact right-handed swing and produced exit velocities at 94 mph and an average exit velocity of 87.8 mph which was 13th best on the day. Otto also displayed a quick release and strong arm behind the plate and was tied for the second best pop time on the day at 2.01 seconds. Otto is poised and ready for a big spring.
+ INF Calvin Roth (Stevens Point Area, 2026) started his day by running the second best 60 yard dash of the day at 6.73 seconds showing quick burst and top end speed through the gates. Next, the 5-foot-11, 178 pound athlete displayed some eye-popping leaping ability and explosiveness as he jumped one of the highest vertical jumps of the winter in Wisconsin at 29.40 which led the event by a 2 inch margin. With the bat, Roth showcased whippy bat speed with feel to elevate the baseball and produced a max exit velocity of 94 mph and an average exit velocity of 90.4 mph which was 4th best for the event. In the infiled, he showcased soft hands and a quick first step and was 84 mph across with an accurate arm. It was a nice day for the junior middle infielder and we will monitor how Roth performs this coming spring and summer.
+ OF Iain Stahel (Wausau East, 2026) started off his day by running an event best 6.72 seconds 60-yard dash showing quick burst off the line and top end speed once underway. Stahel then. Stahel hit with quick and twitchy hands through the ball and was hitting low line drives throughout his round showcasing solid line drive contact.
+ INF Gavin Thompson (Chippewa Falls, 2026) stands an athletic 5-foot-7, 179 pounds. He impressed on sunday with the bat by hitting hard line drives through the middle of the field from a well-sequenced swing. He reached a solid 91 mph max exit velocity during the round. With the glove, he flashed a quick first step and an easy operation to the infield work with soft hands. It was a good look at the junior infielder.
2027
+ OF Levi Boivin (Neenah, 2027) is a strong and sturdy 6-foot-1, 217 pounds with good proportions and an athletic build. Boivin showed out well on Sunday with his performance with the bat. He was hitting with very fast hands through the hitting zone and driving the ball to all fields. Boivin’s hit tool was certainly on display throughout his round. During outfield defense he was working aggressively through the ball and showed quality actions with good direction towards the target. Boivin is a name we continue to like and his performance on Sunday solidified our opinion.
+ OF Brody Ison (Escanaba Area, MI; 2027) showed out well on Sunday and he established himself as an interesting follow. The athletic 5-foot-11, 192 pounds ran a 6.88 seconds which clocked in for third best at the event. He then took his explosiveness to the hitting portion of the event and was all over the barrel and produced loud barrel contact through his round up to 93 mph. From the outfield, Ison showed arm strength up to 84 mph which was tied for second best among the outfield group. It was a good showing for the Michigan native.
+ INF Will Nikolay (De Pere, 2027) continues to shine on both sides of the ball in front of our staff. He displayed his natural hitability with natural hand trigger that allows him to be so short and quick to the ball with control of the barrel. His max exit velocity off the bat was 91 mph and registered an average exit velocity of 86 mph exemplifying how often he got the barrel to and through the ball. Nikolay showed smooth actions and footwork in infield work as well. Nikolay continues to be a player who is firmly on our radar going into the spring.
+ INF Everett Sachs (Preble, 2027) is a wiry a projectable 5-foot-8, 136 pounds and had a nice day on both sides of the ball on Sunday. During hitting, Sachs showcased a smooth and fluid swing with hard line drive contact to all fields. In the infield, the middle infielder really impressed our staff with his ability to range to both sides and confidently funnel the ball into his midline with his soft hands. Sachs is an interesting follow going forward.
+ INF Colby Williams (Slinger, 2027) provided our staff a quality look to both sides of the ball. The sophomore showcased a balanced and no stride swing to deliver the barrel consistently through the hitting zone and produced exit velocities in the mid 80’s. More pop is coming to the athletic Williams as he adds strength to his athletic 5-foot-8, 161 pounds frame.
2028
+ INF Kameron Gruening (Hudson, 2028) is an interesting middle infield prospect who had a nice performance on Sunday. Gruening has athletic actions in the middle infield and showcased quickness laterally and smooth footwork through the ball. During hitting, Gruening demonstrated a well-sequenced right handed swing with barrel accuracy throughout his round. His 5-foot-9, 149 pound frame will certainly add more mass and strength which will allow the metrics to tick up in the near future.
PITCHERS/TWO-WAY
2026
+ Former 2024 Future Gamer and University of St. Thomas Commit, 3B/RHP Sam Abrahamson (Hudson, 2026), would show a quality two-way profile on Sunday. The right-handed hitter presented a wider base with a serious feel to hit, above-average barrel control, and natural loft in his bat path. Defensively, the third baseman would show steady actions throughout his defensive round with confident hands and fluid footwork, making throws across the diamond up to 87 mph. On the mound, the right-handed arm would show a hybrid, rocker step delivery with a compact, quick arm path. The fastball would sit 84-85 with life out of the hand and was thrown alongside a 78-80 sinker with late running action and a sharp, late-breaking slider with big two-plane action. Athletic 5-foot-11, 178-pound frame.

+ Former 2024 Future Gamer and recent Appalachian State Commit, LHP/OF Bron Schaefer (Kaukana, 2026), would show well on both sides of the ball Sunday. On the mound, the left-hand arm showed an uptempo rocker step delivery while working from a compact 3/4 slot. The fastball would sit 83-85 (T86) with life out of the hand and running action. Additionally, the Kaukana product would command a two-plane action curveball, a late sharp breaking slider, and a low-70s changeup with running action. At the plate, the left-handed bat would present a short and compact swing, while showing an ability to spray the field. Long & wiry 6-foot-2, 197-pound frame with present strength and athleticism.

+ SS/RHP Jace Matacynski (Hudson, 2026) would cement himself as one of the best uncommitted two-way 2026 prospects after a solid all-around workout Sunday. Presenting a narrow setup, the right-handed hitter showed a natural and fluid path through contact with a hitterish feel throughout his round (T99.9 EV). Defensively, the shortstop showed athletic, twitchy actions with soft hands and easy range, while making strong accurate throws up to 97 mph from across the diamond. On the mound, the Hudson product would continue to highlight his athletic profile with a quick arm that showed a fastball that would sit in the low 90s (T93) with life out of the hand and carry. He would also show a slider with sharp, two-plane break and a fading changeup. Long and Projectable 6-foot-3, 180-pound frame.

+ LHP Paxton Schuh (Kaukana, 2026) measured in a tapered 6-foot-1, 198 pounds with just an 11.9% body-fat percentage and just over 100 pounds of skeletal muscle mass. Presenting a rocker step delivery with a clean low 3/4s arm slot, the left-hander would sport both an upper-80s four-seam fastball and mid-80s sinker with life out of the hand on the former and late running action on the latter. The Kaukauna product would also show a mid-70s slider with tight action and an upper-70s-low-80s changeup.

+ LHP/1B Austin Ebert (Valders, 2026) was measured at 5-foot-10, 193 pounds with athletic proportions and a strong build. He displayed consistent barrel feel through his round of hitting and reached an impressive 94 mph off the barrel from his repeatable left-handed swing. During defense, the first baseman displayed soft hands and feel around the first-base bag. On the mound, the left-hander repeated an athletic delivery and drove the fastball through the glove and was up to 86 mph with the heater with late running finish to the pitch. The fastball sets up his secondary offerings nicely. His curveball (73-75 mph) displayed short and quick break and he was able to land it consistently for strikes. The change up (74-75) displayed late depth and fade at the plate and flashed “out pitch” quality. Arrow up for Austin Ebert after Sunday’s performance.
+ RHP/3B Carter Heroux (Oconto Falls, 2026) repeated his right-handed delivery consistently throughout his bullpen session. He drove the fastball up to 84 mph and showed feel to get it to spots in the zone consistently. His curveball featured late two-plane break at 70-71 mph and showcased the ability to land in the zone and get below for chase. His slider tunnelled well with the heater and was 73-74 mph with short and quick lateral break. He got through the change up with fastball intent which showcased late running action at 76-78 mph. It was another good look at the junior on the mound. With the bat, Heroux was up to 92 mph max exit velocity and averaged 85 mph off the bat which exemplifies how often he found the barrel throughout his round. Heroux is also a reliable defender with smooth actions and a rangy first step in the infield. Our staff continues to be impressed with the junior two-way talent and he’s poised for a big spring and summer season.
+ LHP/OF Brett Rybarcyzk (Sheboygan North, 2026) continues to be a guy that our staff is high on in the 2026 class. On the mound, the left-hander was up to 84 mph with good finish through spots in the zone. His curveball showcased big two-plane breaking action for strikes, and his slider featured big lateral sweeping action and he showed feel for both breaking balls. The junior rounded out his arsenal with a late fading change up with depth off the fastball. It was another impressive look on the mound for Rybarcyzk. With the bat, she showcased a free and easy swing with a natural feel to the operation that was up to 92 mph exit velocity. He was also 83 mph from the outfield showing good carry and accuracy on his throws. Rybarcyzk continues to impress our staff and has cemented himself as a prospect in the class with upside.
+ Currently ranked the no. 69th best player in Minnesota's 2026 class, RHP Tanner Wylie (Champlin Park, 2026), would show a solid three-pitch mix, which would include a low-80s fastball with running action, a low-70s slider, and a low-70s changeup with heavy fading action and run. 6-foot-3, 165-pound frame.
+ INF/RHP Trace Brehmer (Oconto Falls, 2026) had a solid all-around day. The junior two-way started his day by running a solid 7.15 seconds 60-yard dash showcasing quick burst and quick turnover once underway. Brehmer would then sport the top EV of the day at 102.6 mph. The right-handed bat would present a stock setup, utilizing a toe-tap trigger to get into a position of launch. Showing a downhill bat path, the Oconto Falls product was able to create backspin to the big part of the field throughout his round. 5-foot-8, 170-pound with present strength and remaining physical projection. On the mound, Brehmer was up to 80 mph with the fastball from a quick arm and a downhill delivery and paired it with feel for a curveball with sharp break and a short and quick slider with lateral sweep.
2027
+ LHP/1B Mark Susa (Hudson, 2027) is one of the top prospects in the state for the 2027 class and his performance on Sunday backed it up. Susa has considerable upside with his long, wiry, athletic and projectable 6-foot-4, 180 pounds frame. Susa will most certainly add more mass and strength to his frame in the near future. Susa gets down the mound well and shows explosive arm speed through the baseball from a 3/4 slot. He ran the fastball through spots in the zone up to 86 mph with late life and finish to the pitch. He deployed a big and sharp two-plane breaking curveball at 71-73 mph that he was able to land and get below the zone. He rounded out his arsenal with a change up at 78-79 mph with late running action that he threw out of the same window as his fastball and curveball. It was another extremely impressive look at the left-handed pitching prospect. Next, Susa showed what kind of athlete he is by running a solid 7.14 seconds 60 yard dash and played an incredibly smooth first base defense. He also measured one of the top exit velocities of the day with reaching 94 mph off the bat with an 87.7 mph average. Susa remains one of the top prospects in the state.

+ C/INF/RHP Oliver Heckelsmiller (Verona Area, 2027) showed quality competitor traits and evident baseball acumen. The Verona Area product would show well defensively as both a catcher and infielder, with an event-best 1.99 pop time, active footwork on the dirt, with an accurate arm that generated throws up to 81 mph from across the diamond. At the plate, the right-handed bat would present an even, athletic setup with a well-sequenced swing that would generate EVs up to 90.9 mph. On the mound, the right-handed arm showed a quick, clean 3/4 release while working from an athletic rocker step delivery with a crossfire finish. The fastball would sit upper-70s-low-80s and was thrown alongside an upper-60s curveball and a changeup that would sit around 74 mph. 5-foot-10, 170-pound frame.
+ INF/RHP Cade Heiman (Oshkosh West, 2027) is an athletic and projectable 5-foot-11, 171 pounds. On the mound, he drove his fastball downhill through spots with tailing action through the zone. He spun a curveball off the heater at 65-66 mph and showed big two-plane action in and below the zone. The slider at 69-70 mph showcased slurvy action with sharp 10/4 shape and break to the pitch. It was a solid three pitch mix for Heiman who has upside on the mound. With the bat, Heiman showed quick hands with feel to barrel up the ball consistently and athletic actions in the infield to go with it. It was an impressive overall look at the sophomore.
+ LHP Drew Stettbacher (Horace Mann, 2027) would show well in his bullpen on Sunday. The left-handed arm worked from an uptempo, rhythmic delivery while slinging it from a low 3/4s slot with quick arm that generated fastballs in the low-80s (T84). Also showed an upper-60s curveball with big lateral sweeping shape and an upper-60s-low-70s changeup with late fade and depth. Must know name in the emerging Wisconsin 2027 class. 6-foot-1, 165-pound frame.
+ SS/RHP Mason Sturma (Waterford, 2027) is a long, wiry and projectable 5-foot-9, 144 pounds two-way prospect. Sturma impressed with the bat that featured a loose, easy and well-sequenced right-handed swing that produced an impressive 92 mph max exit velocity off the bat. He was 80 mph across the infield during defensive work that demonstrated smooth actions to both sides, soft hands and feel for the middle infield. On the mound, the sophomore ran the fastball up to 81 mph with a downhill angle and mixed in a curveball and slider for strikes to go with it. Sturma has upside and our staff will continue to monitor his development going forward.
+ RHP/3B Rhett Lamovec (Loyal, 2027) would show an intriguing two-way profile on Sunday, one that should make him a must-know name in the emerging 2027 Wisconsin class. The right-handed arm would show intentful actions throughout his bullpen, with a quick arm and high 3/4s release. The fastball would sit 85-87 (T88) with late two-seam tailing action and was thrown alongside a mid-to-low-70s 10/4 curveball and an upper-70s changeup with late depth and fade. The Loyal product would also take a quality round of BP (T98.3 EV), showing quick, twitchy hands and an ability to leverage the ball out front. Strong and lengthy 6-foot-4, 205-pound frame with remaining physical projection.
RHP Rhett Lamovec (Loyal, 2027) broke out as a name-to-know in his showcase debut at #WausauPID; 6-foot-4, 209 pounds.

+ LHP/OF JD Weiland (Wisconsin Rapids Lincoln, 2027) is a 6-foot-4, 210 pound athlete who has considerable upside potential with the XL frame with plenty of room to add. On the mound, he ran the heater up to 82 mph where he demonstrated the ability to angle is to spots in the zone from a 3/4 slot. He tunnelled the change up off the fastball at 73-75 mph and showcased solid feel for the pitch. With the bat, he backspun the baseball throughout his round with his strong and quick hands through the baseball and was up to 91 mph and drove a ball 315 feet.
+ LHP/1B Drew Warren (Lakeland Union, 2027) is an interesting two-way who had a solid day all-around. Warren showcased a smooth and repeatable delivery and was able to drive the fastball through areas of the zone consistently and showed feel for three secondary offerings for strikes in his curveball, slider and change up. With the bat, Warren was all over the barrel with his quick right-handed swing and stayed behind the ball very well throughout his round. He reached a max exit velocity of 90 mph with his hard line drive contact to all fields.
2028
+ LHP/OF Levi Huettl (Fort Atkisson, 2028) is a super interesting freshman with all kinds of upside as a position player and left-handed pitcher. Huettl, demonstrated impressive ability to drive the fastball through the glove and was able to run the heater into the mid 70’s. He also deployed a two-seam fastball with late running action. His big two-plane breaking curveball was also landed consistently in the zone and will be a weapon for him going into the spring. With the bat, the left-handed hitting Huettl did a great job of staying behind the baseball and displayed very good barrel accuracy throughout his round. Huettl has a ton of projection left in his frame and our staff can envision him developing into a prospect for the 2028 class.
+ 3B/RHP Oliver Lindstrom (Notre Dame De La Baie Academy, 2028) is an interesting prospect in the freshman class after his performance on Sunday. Lindstrom showcased a downhill swing with barrel feel and was 91 mph off the barrel with his max exit velocity which was the best mark among the 2028 participants. On the mound, he was up to 81 mph with the fastball with downhill angle. The slider 67-68 mph featured sharp two-plane break and the change up demonstrated late fade and depth at the plate. Lindstrom is on our staff’s radar going forward.
+ SS/RHP Carson Thurs (Wausau West, 2028) showcased some interesting talent as both a position player and as a right-handed arm. He was up to 90 mph with his max exit velocity with a short and compact swing through the baseball. The freshman also showed confident actions in the infield and showcased an accurate throwing arm with carry through the first base bag. On the mound, Thurs drove the heater downhill through the zone and paired it with a sharp two-plane curveball and a fading change up. Thurs certainly planted himself on our radar after his performance on Sunday.
+ RHP/OF Kamm Nehmer (New Glarus, 2028) has considerable upside as a potential two-way prospect. Nehmer hit with a short and compact swing and used his lower half very well to deliver hard line drive contact with the barrel. On the mound, Nehmer organized very well and was very athletic through the delivery while displaying a solid three pitch mix that he threw for strikes. The 5-foot-8, 125 pound freshman will most certainly add to his frame and his numbers will most certainly tick up in the near future. Our staff will keep close tabs on his development going forward.
