Central Illinois Open: Statistical Analysis

Kevin Cronin
Area Scout

On Wednesday, Aug. 4, the PBR Illinois staff hosted the Central Illinois Open at the Corn Crib Stadium in Normal, IL. This event was open to all classes and provided our scouting staff with a deeper look at prospects within the Central Illinois area.

Several members of our scouting staff collaborated after the event to provide a brief overview of those who stood out, found inside our Quick Hits piece. Today, we'll look at the traditional data gathered from this event and highlight those who topped our statistical leaderboards. We'll unravel more technological information as the week rolls on with the help of our partners at TrackMan and Blast Motion.

You'll find our statistical leaders, below.

+ INF/RHP Charlie Vercruysse (Normal University, 2024) showcased one of the top arms at our Central Illinois event. A 6-foot-2, 175-pound athlete with wiry strength, Vercruysse led the whole infield group in arm strength with an 89 mph across the infield and he threw the second highest fastball of the day, topping at 86 mph.

+ From Teutopolis, OF Kayden Althoff (2022) led the entire event in max outfield velocity. A projectable 6-foot-3, 175-pound athlete, Althoff reached an 88 mph high to home during his defensive workout.

+ OF/RHP Blake Roundtree (LeRoy, 2022) is a 6-foot-3, 200-pounds right handed hitting outfielder with a strong arm and bat. During his outfield portion of the event, Roundtree threw the second highest of the group with an 86 mph high to home and topped at 88 mph on the mound, too.

+ C/INF Jaden Fauske (Nazareth Academy, 2025), a three time Junior Future Games participant, continues to impress our scouting staff each time we see him. During his BP round, Fauske recorded a new presonal best max exit velocity of 89 mph - beating the number he topped at LakePoint two weeks ago and an impressive number for someone his age. Defensively, Fauske took reps at shortstop and behind the dish, topping at 81 mph across the diamond. He also bumped his fastball up to 81 mph on the mound in his pen.
