Wisconsin Power 25: Update

By Andy Sroka
National Managing Editor, Scouting

Here we are, we’ve reached the end of the regular season in this first week of June. With that, this will be our final Power 25 update until the end-of-season update after champions are crowned in each division.

You can find links to each of the WIAA Sectional brackets across all four divisions on this page.

We’ll spend some time highlighting some of the most intriguing playoff matchups staged this week below, while shining a light on the teams headed into the postseason with the most momentum.

INSIDE THE TOP-10

We’ve said this for the last few weeks now, but it has never felt more accurate than now, headed into the postseason – there are more than a handful of teams that have legitimate cases to be called the No. 1 team on the Prep Baseball Wisconsin Power 25.

In our final in-season update of the year, we’re still riding with Hudson at the very top of the board. They split their series with Eau Claire North this past week to ultimately split the Big Rivers Conference with New Richmond, but they still look like (arguably) the strongest team with a competitive resume. It wasn’t an easy call though, next up are Arrowhead and Mukwonago. We’ll break down Muk’s rise into the top-three more below, but the Warhawks are also playing some of their best baseball on the doorstep of the playoffs. As the bats come alive, the pitching is taking the mound with more confidence than ever, and it’s showing.

+ No. 3 Mukwonago (20-6): The Indians, frankly, have a very reasonable case to be the top-ranked team in the state. They swept Arrowhead earlier this season that helped them earn their first share of the Classic Eight Conference title since 1987, and they have some impressive non-conference wins too, despite playing one of the more competitive schedules in the state.

Senior Braedon Vogds (2025; video below) led them again offensively this past week, going 5-for-9 with a double and four RBIs in the team’s four games. Junior Isaac Teisl (2026) chipped in with five hits as well, including a pair of doubles, four runs and four RBIs of his own.

There’s really productive lineup here that’s balanced by some go-to arms in LHP/1B Adam Kudronowicz (2025; Iowa Western JC commit), RHP Ben Jones (2026), as well as RHP Easton Ahrens (2025) and rising sophomore RHP/OF Caden Baker (2027).

  • Next Up: Mukwonago is the No. 2 seed in the Oregon Sectional and they’ll face the winner of Verona/Burlington on Thursday.

+ No. 4 Germantown (20-4): Even though on paper this game might not have meant too much, Germantown’s 4-3 win over Whitefish Bay last week must have felt a little special for head coach Jay Wojcinski, who oversaw the Blue Dukes program for over a decade including 2023’s state championship squad. Beyond that, the Warhawks are rolling right now as a squad. Their last loss came on May 9, and they’ve won 10 straight since. Over this 10-game win streak, Germantown pitching has allowed more than three runs in a game just once, and they’ve held opponents to just one run or none in four of those victories.

We were big fans of Germantown headed into the spring as our pick to win the Greater Metro, and while they fell a game shy behind champs Sussex Hamilton, Germantown swept the Chargers along this same win streak and they feel like a true state title contender.

They’re led right now by RHP Evan Lauer (2025; Bryant & Stratton JC), who wrapped up the regular season with a 1.49 ERA in 42.1 innings with 53 Ks against just eight walks. Germantown’s also gotten some big innings from RHP Logan Zaverl (2025; Iowa Western JC) and RHP Liam Hagland (2026; video below) – Zaverl has 48 Ks in 42 innings with a 2.50 ERA while Hagland has carved out a bigger role for himself as the spring has gone on. Hagland’s emergence has really pushed the Warhawks forward, he’s allowed just two earned runs in 21.1 innings with 34 Ks against seven walks and 11 hits allowed.

  • Next Up: Germantown is the No. 3 seed in one of the toughest sectionals of these playoffs, the Oconomowoc Sectional. They’ll play the winner of Wauwatosa West/Brookfield East on Thursday.

+ No. 8 New Berlin Eisenhower (18-5): Ike picked the right time to start peaking. They wrapped up the spring going undefeated (12-0) inside the Woodland West with a 1-0 win over New Berlin West before finishing the regular season with a win over Mukwonago on senior day.

West made their crosstown rivals earn an undefeated conference record though, requiring senior RHP Sam Hirthe (2025; video below) to pitch eight shutout innings with nine Ks and just one walk, four hits. Hirthe’s lights-out stuff effectively complements the stellar statistics compiled by sophomore southpaw Cal Schneider (2027), who has allowed just one earned run this spring, and he K’d four in two hitless innings against Mukwonago before he was removed in his final outing of the regular season.

The offense can be a little streaky with the Lions, but there’s plenty of production to support this stout pitching staff and that combo has them ranked as the top Division 2 team on our board.

  • Next Up: As the No. 2 seed in the Waterford Sectional, they’ll play No. 7 Shoreland Lutheran on Tuesday and the winner of Waterford/Wilmot on Thursday, should they advance.

Elsewhere inside the top-10, No. 9 Sussex Hamilton has lost five of their last seven, and four straight headed into the playoffs. They’ll get to wipe their slate clean at the right time, and they have the ingredients to make a deep, deep run nonetheless. No. 7 De Pere ran into a buzzsaw junior arm in a 1-0 loss against Menasha, but the Redbirds still feel capable of making a repeat run. No. 6 Kimberly clinched the Fox Valley Association outright this past week with a convincing win over rivals Hortonville, 14-4, and they capped off the regular season with another quality win against Slinger, too. No. 5 Sun Prairie East are outright Big Eight champs after sweeping Janesville Craig this past week, though they dropped a close contest to Oconomowoc, 7-6, in the midst of it all.

ON-THE-RISE SQUADS

+ No. 13 Milton (19-7): The wins Milton’s compiled in recent weeks have really started to age well, which has helped the Red Hawks make a big leap this update despite playing just the once this past week – although it was a win over Elkhorn, 10-3. Milton swept a competitive Watertown squad last week and also stacked a win over Sun Prairie East onto it. Sophomore Jack Spielmann (2027) stayed hot at the plate in a 3-for-4 showing with five RBIs on the day in the Elkhorn win. Meanwhile, senior LHP Trey Jones (2025; Milwaukee Area Tech JC) has been one of the most effective pitchers in the state this spring so far, giving the Red Hawks a true go-to arm to lean on come playoff time.

  • Next Up: Milton is the top seed in the Oregon Sectional, though it has the makings of being one of the toughest ones to finish on top of. They play the winner of Oregon/Westosha Central on Thursday.

+ No. 16 Whitefish Bay (20-6): The North Shore was one of the most exciting conference races we saw this spring and it ended in a three-way tie among Hartford, Slinger and Whitefish Bay, though the Blue Dukes were the only D2 team to earn a share. While they’re not scoring in bunches, Bay has transformed their pitching staff into one of the state’s stingiest. They allowed just 46 runs across 16 games in the month of May, less than three runs per game on average. LHP/OF Charlie McIntyre (2026; Youngstown State) and freshman RHP Nicky Vitucci (2028; video below) combined to shut out No. 24 Pewaukee on Tuesday in what could be a preview of the D2 Waterford Sectional championship game. Senior RHP Mitchell Kryger (2025) has also been a great story this year as he’s been integral to the Blue Dukes from the mound, too.

If the lineup can find a little more consistency in the playoffs, then Whitefish Bay is a real D2 threat in Appleton.

  • Next Up: Whitefish Bay is the No. 2 seed in the Waterford Sectional and they’ll play West Bend East on Tuesday, a North Shore team they beat twice already this spring. Should they advance, they’ll play the winner of Kettle Moraine Lutheran/Port Washington on Wednesday.

+ No. 17 Wisconsin Lutheran (17-7): WISCO rebounded from back-to-back losses in the week prior to consecutive wins this past week against No. 11 Menomonee Falls and Greendale. In the preseason we wondered how effective their pitching staff might be, when in reality it’s been one of their best assets in 2025.

LHP Henry Szymanski (2025) has been one of the best lefties in the state this spring, with a 1.24 ERA across 45 innings with 58 Ks. Fellow lefty Brayden Abramowski (2026) has also been very effective for the Vikings, with a 1.16 ERA in 36.1 innings with 46 strikeouts. Sophomore RHP Eli Dreier (2027) earns more whiffs than anyone on this team as well, with 47 punch-outs in just 25 innings with a 1.68 ERA to go along with it.

Offensively, SS Cooper Sievert (2027) has been one of the best bats in the state, and not just for his age. He has a 1.207 OPS going into the postseason with eight extra-base hits in 59 at-bats (3 HR) and he’s walking twice as much as he Ks (16:8). CIF/RHP Wynn Hotchkiss (2025) has been a very useful two-way contributor as well, with six doubles and two homers this spring, and he has a 2.07 ERA in 27 innings from the mound.

  • Next Up: Wisconsin Lutheran is the No. 3 seed inside the Muskego Sectional where they’ll play the winner of Milwaukee Pulaski/Juneau/Brookfield Central on Thursday.

+ No. 19 Monona Grove (19-7): After making their way back onto the Power 25 in last week’s update, the Silver Eagles seem to have rebounded from a midseason slump. They won their lone contest of the week, a 10-0 win against a competitive McFarland team, and that’s six straight wins now. MG’s pitching has allowed just four combined runs these past six wins, and it was especially nice to see the bats really come alive last Tuesday, combining for five extra-base hits in the win – and by five different hitters. This was once our top-ranked team in the state, and that version of the Silver Eagles still feels like it’s in there, and we could see them flaunting it as their playoff journey kicks off this week.

  • Next Up: Monona Grove is the No. 3 seed in the Oregon Sectional, and they’ll open against Madison La Follette on Tuesday. The winner between them will face the winner of the Kettle Moraine/Elkhorn matchup on the other side on Thursday.

WELCOME

+ No. 23 Slinger (20-6): The Owls are back after spending just one week off the Power 25. Last week, they did earn their first share of a conference title in over 20 years, finishing in a three-way tie for the North Shore crown with Hartford and Whitefish Bay. Slinger isn’t interested in stopping there though, and they have the right mix of ingredients that can help a team on the journey to and through state, armed with depth inside the pitching staff while run-producers like 3B Macay Wagner (2025; Bryant & Stratton JC) are consistently performing from the middle of the order.

  • Next Up: Slinger’s the No. 2 seed in the Oshkosh North Sectional and they’ll face the winner of Watertown/Neenah – and Watertown, we feel, is a No. 7 capable of making a cinderella run this spring, so the Owls have their work cut out for them should the Goslings advance.

+ No. 25 D.C. Everest (22-4): No team has more wins on the Power 25 than the Evergreens, earning wins Nos. 21 and 22 against Stevens Point Area, which is fitting considering how SPASH has dominated the Wisconsin Valley Conference for a long time now. In 2025, it was finally Everest’s turn to take the WVC and they won it convincingly, at 11-1 inside the conference. Senior RHP Cole O’Brien (2025; UW-Whitewater) has been one of the best pitchers in the state this season, with 79 strikeouts in 49 innings and a 1.29 ERA. Behind him on staff, Carter Miller has a 1.51 ERA in his 46 innings of work, which has helped D.C. Everest climb to the top of the conference. Catcher Cole VanSlyke (2026) has a 1.105 OPS this spring with 13 extra-base hits and he’s K’d just five times with 18 walks.

  • Next Up: D.C. Everest is the No. 2 seed in the Stevens Point Sectional, and they’ll face the winner of River Falls/Wisconsin Rapids on Thursday.

DROPPING OUT

+ Brookfield East (16-8)
+ Kenosha St. Joseph (18-7)

ON THE BUBBLE

This was a tough week for selecting the last couple spots on the Power 25, so we’ll spend some time breaking down some of the squads that got close in this update, seeing as our staff has high hopes for them in the playoffs.

+ Oak Creek (20-5): The Knights’ 2025 season outlook felt something like a “retooling” for the future, yet here they are, back-to-back Southeast champs. Head coach Scott Holler recently won the 500th game of his career, and he’s steering Oak Creek back into the playoffs with the wind at their backs. They swept a solid Tremper squad in three games this week to put the conference crown on their heads outright, and the upstart underclassmen on this roster have been pulling more than their weight to make this special season possible.

Freshman center fielder Camden Jeske (2028; video below) has been one of the most productive underclass bats in the state this season, all while playing an excellent center field defensively. Sophomore Brian Simmons (2027) has been playing everyday shortstop for this team while hitting in the middle of the order. Breakout junior Jackson Villarreal (2026) has some premium power/speed traits for a left-handed bat, measuring triple-digit EVs as a 7.06 runner – he’s been the Knights’ lead-off man for much of the spring.

Few pitchers have been as good as RHP Ryan Buchta (2025; Winona State) has been these past couple weeks. He was the Prep Baseball Wisconsin Pitcher of the Week in Week 8 after throwing a perfect game against Bradford at max efficiency, with 13 Ks on 76 pitches across seven innings. He followed that up with another shutout, this time against Tremper, and he allowed just five hits, two walks, with nine strikeouts, bringing his total to 67 this spring in 49 innings.

+ Seymour (21-3): The Thunder were ranked briefly this spring just a couple weeks back, and they were on the cusp of returning inside this update after a 3-2 win over Bay Port. Regardless, we still like them as a D2 contender, though that’s hardly surprising, considering they’re the No. 1 seed in the Waupaca Sectional, and they’ll face Shawano on Tuesday, the team that handed them their most recent loss. Since mid-May, INF/RHP Xavier Salzman (2026) leads the team with 10 hits (3 XBH) and 10 RBIs, though the run production is coming from all angles inside Seymour’s lineup.

+ Watertown (16-10): Despite the 10 losses, the Goslings are deserving of your attention. They’ve played a contentious schedule with some highly competitive non-conference games mixed in there, and winning 16 games despite it all is more than commendable. They have wins this spring over Waupun, Oconomowoc, Monona Grove, Sun Prairie East, Beaver Dam (twice), Badger, Hartford, and Waukesha West – that’s eight teams that have been ranked at one time or another on the Power 25.

RHP Brady Lessner (2026; video below) was a breakout junior from our winter showcase circuit, and he’s been a reliable arm for them this spring, most recently earning the win over Waukesha West on Saturday with six Ks over four shutout innings. Senior RHP Eliot Roethle (2025; Bryant & Stratton JC) was expected to be one of the top arms in his district and he has been. Seniors and twin brother OF/LHP Jacob Hurtgen (2025; Bryant & Stratton JC) and C Calvin Hurtgen (2025; Bryant & Stratton JC) are Watertown’s main run-producers as well, again, as expected, while junior OF/C Davis Cashin (2026) has successfully operated as the team’s table-setter from the top of the order.
