South Texas Preseason All-State: Quick Hits

On Saturday, January 10th, the PB Texas staff traveled to the University of Houston in Houston, TX, to host the South Texas Preseason All-State, an invite-only event for all high school classes.

More than 75 players made their way to Houston this past weekend and participated in a pro-style workout, gathering unrivaled access to data through our state-of-the-art tech partners, as well as in-depth scouting analysis from our Prep Baseball Texas staff.

We have already released a Statistical Analysis from the event, highlighting the top statistical performers. Today, we will provide our scouting takeaways on some of the prospects who stood out throughout the event.

UPPERCLASS

Adriano Hayes | LHP/1B | Barbers Hill | 2026 | L/L | Alvin CC Commit
Physical two-way lefty with real doubles/HR pop. Controlled, balanced swing with the ability to turn the barrel; topped 101.6 EV while splitting both gaps. Equally impressive on the mound. Up to 89 mph from the left side with ASR. Slider complements the fastball with sweep (~17 HM), and the changeup is a quality third pitch (~-17 HM).

Bentley Blinka | OF/3B | Victoria East | 2026 | R/R
Found the barrel consistently all weekend, producing line drive after line drive. Strong athlete with gap-to-gap pop and quick hands, with developing barrel turn. Moves well defensively and projects to play at the next level. Exciting follow heading into the spring.

Myles Lewis | 1B/OF | Summer Creek | 2026 | L/L | Panola JC Commit
Profiles as a steady defender at first base with solid footwork, a clean transition on double plays, and good rhythm on ground balls. At the plate, shows a simple approach with an effortless swing; topped 101.4 EV and consistently stayed inside the baseball.

Zeke Bullard | OF | College Station | 2026 | L/R | Texas-San Antonio Commit
Big, physical bat with the strength and bat speed to drive the baseball. Swing has good rhythm and he uses his hands well; topped 102.3 EV. Defensively shows a solid, accurate arm from the outfield (82 mph).

Ben Fuqua | LHP | Spring Branch Memorial | 2027 | L/L
Big-bodied lefty with significant upside. Fastball sat 87-88, touching 89, with ~19 IVB and ASR. Curveball shows good spin and playable shape, and he’s comfortable throwing it in any count. The changeup, new to the arsenal, may be his best secondary right now, showing heavy ASR (~21 HM) with excellent sell and present command. Continues to trend up; looking forward to seeing him compete this spring.

Caleb Gafford | RHP/SS | Tomball | 2027 | R/R
Sidearm look with real movement, doesn’t throw anything straight. Fastball shows sink/ASR, and the changeup mirrors that action. Slider is the separator with big sweep (consistently ~-22 HM) and feel to land it. Arm works and should continue to gain velocity from the slot.

Arturo “DJ” Aranda Jr. | SS/2B | Eagle Pass | 2027 | L/R
Strong defender with quick feet, clean footwork, and reliable glove actions. Short arm stroke with a quick release; throws show carry. Offensively, quick hands with a bit of buggy whip and sneaky juice for the size, barrel accuracy stands out. Ran a 6.75 60.

Cole Coffman | RHP/3B | St. John’s | 2027 | R/R
Quick arm with a repeatable delivery. Fastball touched 87 with sink/run. Slider is a true two-plane pitch with late sweep and depth; sharp when on time, spinning ~2400-2500 rpm with ~ -19 HM. Frame/build suggest more coming. Upside arm.

Cash Clayton | OF/RHP | The Woodlands | 2027 | R/R
Continues to show athleticism and tools. Big, physical mover who ran a 6.71 60. Defensively, arm strength is a standout (topped 97) with carry and accuracy. Simple, efficient stroke with strength and quickness; found the barrel often and produced consistent 100+ EV, topping 102.4.

Cooper Gibson | 3B/RHP | Smithson Valley | 2027 | L/R
Well-rounded showing on both sides. Compact left-handed swing with good barrel action; topped 105.7 EV and consistently produced firm contact. Corner INF profile with solid actions and enough arm for either corner. On the mound, works three pitches in the zone; fastball shows sink/run when located down.

Brody Eisert | 1B/OF | Boerne Champion | 2027 | L/R
Physical bat with strength present and a clean left-handed stroke. Topped 99.4 EV with a flat path that produces gap-to-gap pop. Corner OF/1B profile with solid defensive actions at both spots.

Dominic Giametta III | OF/RHP | Fulshear | 2027 | R/R | Alabama Commit
Moves well for his size. Quick feet and athletic outfield actions. Plus arm strength (topped 95 RF-to-home). Big power upside at the plate; topped 105.9 EV in BP with a compact swing and quality flight when he gets into launch. High-upside two-way follow.

Ryder Garcia | SS/3B | Hays | 2027 | L/R
Put on a hitting display in BP, barrel after barrel with a ton of line drives (82% LD rate per TrackMan). Excellent barrel accuracy with a true line-to-line approach. Solid actions on the dirt with instincts and “gamer” feel.

Caleb Alexander | SS/RHP | Summer Creek | 2027 | R/R
Speed and quickness drive the profile (6.76 60). Shows agility and lateral range on the infield with a quick release and solid arm. At the plate, compact stroke with hand speed and gap-to-gap pop; barreled balls consistently through the middle.

UNDERCLASS

Indie Granillo | LHP | Langham Creek | 2028 | L/L
Big, strong sophomore with a live left arm. Fastball topped 88 with arm-side run. Breaking ball (75-77) can be sharp and late when he gets it out front, and the change shows ASR as well. Big upside with more velocity in the tank.

Luis Arcaya | 1B/RHP | Lamar | 2028 | R/R
Strong young corner profile with pull-side juice. Squared up plenty in BP and topped 102 EV. Solid actions at first base with a strong arm. On the mound, topped 83.8 with big ASR (HM ~20–21). Slider is short, tight, and late with clean spin. Trending up, keep watching.

Noah Newton | RHP/3B | Fort Bend Christian Academy | 2028 | R/R
Athletic arm with a tall, lanky frame and room to fill out. Fastball sat 83-84, touching 85, with solid ASR (~18 HM) and strikes when timing is right. Slider shows good spin with developing depth and command. Frame/arm strength point to a strong projection.

Mason Bryant | OF/RHP | Kingwood | 2028 | R/R
Solid two-way athlete. At the plate, shows strength with quick hands and pull-side pop, projects as a gap-to-gap type hitter. Defensively reads the ball well with a plus arm (86 OF velo). On the mound, fastball sat 82-83; both fastball and change feature heavy movement (up to 23 HM). Developing player with tools on both sides.

Osi Lopez | C/SS | La Joya Palmview | 2028 | R/R
Another strong weekend. Behind the plate, popped 1.97-2.04 and was up to 79 with soft hands and a clean, quick release. Also defends well on the left side with rhythm, timing, and plenty of arm. Offensively features a short, compact stroke with quick hands and a flat path, gap-to-gap hitter with barrel skill.

Ryan Chism | SS/RHP | Friendswood | 2028 | R/R
Continues to show as a dependable defender, moves well to both sides with clean glove/footwork actions and feel for the dirt. Offensively, hands are quick, and when he stays through the ball with his backside, he drives it to all fields.

Austin Hanel | 1B | Concordia Lutheran | 2028 | R/R
Big, physical body that moves well for the size; ran a 7.04 60 with room to improve. Solid actions at first base with developing rhythm and timing. Loud barrels in BP and topped 107 EV. Big upside as he continues to mature.

Lathan Weaver | OF/RHP | Monsignor Kelly Catholic | 2028 | L/R
Started the day with a 6.75 60, and that speed shows up in the outfield, range with good feet and clean routes. Strong arm and quick hand; consistently threw 88 from the OF. At the plate, drives balls gap-to-gap with quick hands and a flat path; shows adjustability. Tools point up.

Caleb Cardenas | C/2B | College Park | 2028 | R/R
Showed some thump in BP with a heavy barrel and the ability to drive balls into the LCF gap. Simple, balanced swing, projects as a solid gap-to-gap hitter. Defensively, throws with accuracy and solid arm strength; pop times 1.97-2.08. Quiet receiver with quick feet and release.

Cooper Mitchamore | C/1B | Cypress Ranch | 2028 | R/R
Strength continues to come. Topped 97 EV and was on time for a lot of barrels, driving balls into the LCF gap. Behind the plate, best pop was 1.94 with quick feet and a clean exchange. Some defensive versatility, solid defenser at 1B as well.

Kyle Behan | OF/2B | Lamar | 2028 | L/R
Athletic, projectable profile. Quick hands with a flat path at the plate; topped 101.5 EV with good flight. Defensively shows solid arm strength and quick feet with range.

Levi Abrego | SS/3B | Iowa Colony | 2028 | R/R
High-end blend of athleticism, speed, and strength (6.69 60). Smooth infield actions with clean rhythm/footwork. Big arm strength, 88-89 across consistently. Balanced swing with quick hands; topped 104 EV. Impact athlete.

Nicholas Mendoza | OF/RHP | John Cooper | 2029 | R/R
Toolsy young athlete with strength and quickness in the bat. Topped 98.7 EV and lived on the barrel. Good mover in the outfield with an easy glide; ran a 6.94 60. Arm strength present (86 OF velo). On the mound, topped 85 with a repeatable delivery and athletic arm path; shows feel, stays in the zone, and works with a slider/split mix. Strong foundation for a young two-way.

Jack Roberts | RHP | Lake Creek | 2029 | R/R
Four-pitch mix with big movement across the board. Fastball around ~21 HM; curveball ~-23 HM; slider up to -25 HM; changeup ~20 HM. Nothing is straight, and he shows command of the shapes. Strong mentality and competes.

David Williams | RHP | Cypress Woods | 2029 | R/R
Showed well with big arm strength. Fastball sat 87-88 with late life; HM up to ~22 and consistently in the zone. Slider showed solid spin despite working through a blister. Development arrow is pointing up. Exciting follow for the season.

Riley Thompson | 3B/OF | Rouse | 2029 | R/R
Big, strong athlete with natural raw tools. Offensively, shows rhythm and strength with the ability to turn the barrel; topped 100.7 EV and consistently hits balls with pace. Ran a 7.12 60 and projects as a plus runner as he continues to mature. Athletic defender with a solid arm. High-upside follow.
