Future Games: Day 2 Recap

Team Arizona made it to Emerson, GA for the 2020 PBR Future Games. The event located at the LakePoint Sports Complex, widely considered as the best venue in the country for amateur baseball has come to a close. PBR selected some of the top uncommitted 2022 & 2023 grad prospects from around the country to compete in this prestigious event. Team Arizona brought 19 players that will all be looking to show off their talent to the rest of the nation, PBR scouting staff and college coaches from around the country. All games are live streamed through Playsight on the Future Games homepage where scouts can follow prospective athletes.
On Saturday, August 1st Team Arizona started off their schedule with a pro-style workout where they showed off some of their individuals tools and recorded measurable statistics. These sessions were videotaped and will go on individual PBR profile pages along with showcase data and scouting notes throughout the week. After the workout portion completes, teams spend the next two days competing in live game action versus the other PBR select teams from around the country. Team Arizona stared off its live game action yesterday, taking on Team California & Team PNW. Team Arizona took away two wins on the day.

Game 1 Recap
Team Arizona started off its live game action at the 2020 Future Games, taking on a strong California team. Arizona came away with the victory in the low scoring affair 3-2 led by strong pitching and defensive performances. Our pitching allowed no earned runs on the day. 2022 RHP Sean Farney started on the mound for Arizona, pounding low in the strike zone, keeping California offense to a minimum. 2022 3B Ruben Castro made two big league plays at 3B, getting fully extended on a dive to his left while throwing the runner out at 2nd base on his knees. He also came in to his backhand throw throwing a runner out at 1B off-balance. The Arizona offense showed discipline at the plate, drawing 12 walks to get base runners. As a result, the hits were held to a minimum. 2022 Brandon Compton, Henry Chabot & Mario Bejarano had our only 3 hits in the game. 2022 LHP Mario Bejarano came in 2nd on the mound, keeping hitters off-balance. 2022 RHP Lucas Cardy came in the last two innings to close the door.
Game 2 Recap
In the 2nd game of a doubleheader, Team Arizona squared off against the Pacific Northwest. The Arizona offense came alive with several players finding the barrel throughout the contest, logging ten hits total as a team. 2023 SS Joshua Tiedemann led the offense with two hits, including a triple down the RF line. 2022 Mario Bejarano also had two hits. 2022 C Caleb Herd managed the pitching well and played strong defense, back picking runners at 1st & 2nd base on the day from his knees. 2022 RHP Mason Kelley started on the mound for Arizona, allowing one earned run in three innings of work while striking out three batters. Henry Chabot was first in relief allowing one earned while striking out two batters. Marcus Delgado closed the door for Arizona, allowing no earned runs while topping out at 89mph. Team Arizona came away with the victory with a strong all around performance, winning 8-4.
