MLB Draft: Peach State Primer

With the 2025 MLB Draft starting on Sunday in our backyard, it's time to talk about some of the Georgia high schoolers who could potentially hear their names called in the now 2-day, 20 round event.

Last year saw only two players sign out of high school in RHP/SS Conrad Cason (Red Sox, 8th Round) and OF Bo Walker (Diamondbacks, 11th Round), but I believe this year has a chance for quite a few more including Prep Baseball All-Americans, Future Gamers, and Super 60 participants.

Here’s eight names that we could hear across the 20 rounds including multiple with day one ceilings as well as some sleeper picks that could provide some big value to teams.

Daniel Pierce, SS, Mill Creek

Commitment: Georgia

DraftHQ Top 100 rank: #16

We’ve heard Pierce's name rumored as high as 12th overall during this cycle, and the shortstop has a toolset to match that ceiling. An athletic 6-foot-1 frame with some projection remaining throughout, Pierce offers present 60+ speed as a 6.4 with in-game speed to match. Lateral actions and range offer a high ceiling up the middle with long-term staying power at SS that’s backed by above-average arm strength. At the plate, Pierce shows a longer load that he syncs up extremely well while keeping a well-leveraged barrel in-zone forever. Hit tool ceiling can be above-average with power that's not far behind. Good mix of polish and projection in a middle infield prospect that screams potential first round profile.
