Providence Day Rallies Late to Defeat Christ School 8-5
Providence Day School – February 26, 2025
A wild game saw the official scorebook differ from the scoreboard, but Providence Day secured an 8-5 victory after a dramatic six-run sixth inning.
Game Recap
Christ School took an early lead, scoring three runs in the first inning. A hit-by-pitch, a walk, and an error allowed the Greenies to push across the first run, followed by two additional unearned runs.
In the bottom of the first, Austin Nelson (2025, C) responded for Providence Day with a 2-run home run to left field, cutting the deficit to 3-2. From there, both teams settled in defensively, with the score remaining unchanged through the fourth inning.
Christ School extended its lead with single runs in the fourth and fifth innings, taking a 5-2 advantage into the sixth. However, the momentum shifted dramatically in the bottom of the sixth. Three consecutive walks loaded the bases for Providence before Rush Adams (2026, 3B) delivered a two-run double down the left field line. A subsequent hit-by-pitch reloaded the bases, and Charlie Kropf (2027, SS) reached on an error, tying the game. Trevor Yancey followed with a double to right field, clearing the bases and putting Providence Day ahead 8-5.
As daylight faded, and no outs in the bottom of the 6th, Jack Rivera (2026, OF) lined out softly to second base, resulting in a double play. Matthew Emery (2027, DH) then bunted back to the pitcher, sacrificing himself with no runners on to end the inning and officially marki the completion of the sixth.
The teams returned to the field for the seventh, and Christ School quickly put two runners aboard. A double down the left field line scored one run, bringing the tying run into scoring position. However, after a brief conference, the umpires called the game due to darkness, reverting the final score to the end of the sixth inning and securing an 8-5 victory for Providence Day.
