Watauga Takes Control Early, Defeats Davie 8-4
MOCKSVILLE, N.C. – Watauga jumped out to an early 3-0 lead in the first inning and never looked back, securing an 8-4 victory over Davie on Tuesday night. The Pioneers capitalized on eight hits and six walks, steadily adding to their lead throughout the game.
Luke Rothrock earned the win with four strong innings, allowing just one run on three hits. Evan Burroughs had a standout performance, collecting two hits, two RBIs, and scoring twice while also recording the save.
Davie attempted to rally late, but Watauga’s early offensive surge proved too much to overcome.

Coy James, SS, Davie County HS, 2025
Ole Miss commit. Listed at 6-foot, 190 pounds. Broad shoulders. Athletic build. Tapered waist. Moves with ease on the infield and in the box. Defensively the movement is efficient, easy, and smooth. Hands and feet work with good rhythm. Confident hands. Consistently receives balls on the inside left hip with an easy funnel, athletic exchange. Medium arm action to a high-3/4 slot. Plenty of arm to stay on the right side. Showed the ability to make the athletic play on the move with ease. Arm has the ability to manipulate the exchange and release off platform. Still with good carry. Accurate arm throughout the day. Very confident James will make the routine play, routinely as he transitions to the next level. Right handed hitter. Balanced and aggressive with good barrel feel. Excellent bat speed stands out while watching in person. Good plan. Worked to stay in the middle of the field. Ball jumped off the barrel. Has hit 10 home runs on the year. Found the barrel twice in 3 at-bats on this day. Lone at-bat off the barrel he was out front of a two strike breaking ball, rolling it over with solid pace. Ran 4.11 down the line to get the hit. Plenty of MLB Draft interest as James has continued to turn tools into production in live game action.
