The 2014 Major League Draft takes place June 5-7. It will begin Thursday evening at 7 p.m. EST with the first day consisting of the first two rounds and competitive balance rounds. The third through 10th rounds will take place on Friday and Rounds 11-40 will happen Saturday. The final two days will start at 1 p.m. EST. In advance of the draft, Prep Baseball Report is posting a summary of each state in the coverage area with scouting reports on the top high school draft prospects.

New York had four high school players taken in the top 10 rounds in 2013. The only thing preventing that from happening this year is signability. The state offers several prospects with upside, but uneven performances and their commitments make projections cloudy. RHP Scott Blewett had first-round potential coming into the season, but he missed a few weeks with shoulder tightness and made just one appearance after resting. His team was eliminated from the postseason in that game. Northeast pitchers are always attractive to scouts and New York has its share, plus a few position players with upside.

1. Scott Blewett, RHP, Baker HS, NY
After his World Wood Bat Championship outing in Jupiter, FL, in October, it was obvious that scouts would follow Blewett closely come spring. At 6-foot-6, 230 pounds, he offers good size and projection. He’s capable of throwing 90-94 mph fastball, though his velocity was inconsistent this spring and he didn’t always hold it deep into games.
