East Dallas Preseason ID: Quick Hits

On Sunday, January 4th, the PB Texas staff traveled to Rockwall High School in Rockwall, TX, to host the East Dallas Preseason ID, an open event for all high school classes.
More than 30 players made their way to Rockwall HS this past weekend and participated in a pro-style workout, gathering unrivaled access to data through our state-of-the-art tech partners, as well as in-depth scouting analysis from our Prep Baseball Texas staff.
We have already released a Statistical Analysis from the event, highlighting the top statistical performers. Today, we will provide our scouting takeaways on some of the prospects who stood out throughout the event.

Preston Farragut | 2027 | CF/INF | Dallas Jesuit | S/R | 6’1” 195
Strong, athletic build with room to continue adding strength. Plus runner, posting a 6.70 60, and moves well in the outfield where he profiles as a steady defender in center field. Throws show carry. Infield actions are developing and should continue to firm with reps. Switch hitter who produces hard contact from both sides of the plate; showed a bit more present impact from the left side during this workout. Athletic, physical player with speed, strength, and positional versatility.
Jack Taylor | 2028 | OF/1B | Sunnyvale | R/R | 6’1” 210
Strong, physical frame with room to add additional strength. Currently ran a 7.20 60, with speed expected to firm into a better-than-average runner as he matures. Defensive actions are developing, projecting as a corner infielder/outfielder. Raw arm strength will continue to improve. Offensively shows plus bat speed and strength, producing hard contact off the barrel. Hit approach and swing consistency can continue to refine, but the raw tools are present. Developmental player with upside - one to track.
Casen Pessel | 2027 | LHP/OF | Wolfe City | L/L | 5’9” 140
Athletic left-hander with a compact arm circle and a repeatable delivery. Shows the ability to spin the baseball, flashing quality action on both the slider and curveball, each spinning near 2400 rpm. Mixed in a split-change with sink and arm-side action. Strike-thrower with three solid secondary offerings. Fastball velocity is expected to increase as strength is added. Also ran a 6.93 60, with speed continuing to firm. At the plate, shows a line-drive approach with barrel feel. Hit over power profile at present.
Beau Blair | 2029 | SS/OF | Dallas Christian | R/R | 5’10” 135
Young, athletic player with plenty of room to add size and strength. Ran a 6.94 60 and projects as a future plus runner as speed continues to improve. Footwork works well in the infield with defensive actions beginning to firm. At the plate, shows a solid approach with a swing that will continue to develop. With added strength, offensive impact should follow. Middle-of-the-field profile with a body that projects well long term.
Max Pennock | 2027 | INF | Community | R/R | 5’10” 145
Projects well physically with expected gains in strength and weight. Plus runner, posting a 6.76 60. Defensive actions on the infield are developing, with the ability to throw from multiple angles on the move. Arm strength projects to average at the high school level with room to improve. At the plate, shows a solid approach with consistent hard contact and pull-side power.
Jake Usrey | 2027 | C/3B | Rockwall | S/R | 5’11” 150
Projectable frame with room to add strength. Ran a 7.00 60, with speed expected to improve. Received well in bullpen work and showed accurate throws to second base with carry that will continue to increase as raw arm strength firms. Switch hitter who produced consistent line-drive contact from the left side; right-handed swing continues to develop. Switch-hitting catcher with physical projection and defensive upside.
Marlon Harris | 2027 | INF/RHP | Cedar Hill | S/R | 5’9” 150
Athletic switch-hitter with a frame that projects for added strength. Posted a 6.93 60 and projects as a plus runner. Defensive actions in the infield are developing, with raw arm strength trending toward above-average at the high school level. From the left side, shows bat speed and pull-side impact; right-handed approach will continue to firm with consistency. On the mound, repeats his delivery with arm speed present; stuff is expected to improve as physical maturity and polish progress. Intriguing multi-sport-style athlete with upside.
Colt Medders | 2028 | OF/RHP | Palestine | R/R | 6’0” 160
Strong, projectable frame with room to add strength. Ran a 7.18 60, with speed projecting to improve to around 7.0 or better. Steady defensive outfielder with an arm that works and projects to above-average raw arm strength at the high school level. Offensively shows a short, efficient path to the ball with the ability to barrel consistently. Player to monitor closely as tools continue to develop.
Riley Harris | 2028 | RHP/OF | Sunnyvale | R/R | 6’1” 168
Projectable frame with room to add strength. Repeats his delivery well, showing arm speed and hand quickness. Fastball touched 82 mph, with velocity expected to firm as he matures physically. Shows the ability to spin the baseball, flashing breaking balls with spin rates north of 2700 rpm at times. Young arm with feel and upside - one to follow as development continues.
Jayton Mulkey | 2027 | RHP | Caddo Mills | R/R | 6’3” 185
Owns a strong, physical frame with room to continue adding strength. Repeats his delivery well with clean arm action, and arm speed should continue to tick up as he matures. Fastball has been up to 88 mph, showing carry through the zone. Both the curveball and slider show solid spin, flashing 2400 rpm at the top and averaging 2300+, giving him two distinct breaking-ball shapes. Changeup is developing, with feel starting to show. Works around the zone with his entire mix and projects for additional fastball velocity moving forward. A follow arm as stuff continues to firm.
Anthony Leins | 2027 | INF | Lubbock Cooper | R/R
Thick, physical build with strength continuing to develop. Profiles as a steady defender at first base, moving well for his size with reliable actions around the bag. At the plate, shows a solid hit approach with consistent hard contact and the ability to leave the yard. Bat-to-ball ability and present strength make him a dependable offensive presence. A corner infielder who can swing the bat and handle the position defensively.
