Alabama Scouting Director

The 2026 high school baseball season is quickly approaching and as usual, excitement abounds throughout the state. Players and coaches have been working in preparation for the upcoming season and, as is the case each year, there are some very talented players and teams across Alabama.

Teams across the state have goals and aspirations to finish their seasons in the Jacksonville/Oxford/Montgomery area at the AISA or AHSAA state championships, but there is plenty of work to be done before that becomes reality. We hope to familiarize our readers with many of the teams across the state as we preview individual teams across Alabama. We will take you right up to first pitch this season with these team previews and by continuing our scheduled podcasts and releasing our preseason top-10 rankings in each AHSAA classification.

Please keep checking back throughout the season as we will be your one-stop shop for everything related to high school baseball across the state.

Each week we will be releasing our Players of the Week, updating the top-10 ranks in each AHSAA classification, as well updating our Power 25 overall rankings. One thing, especially, you don’t want to miss are our scheduled podcasts with guests from across the state, as well as the recaps and previews of the big games we’re covering.

*Please note the information has been gathered from head coaches across the state, based on their replies to the questionnaire we distributed over this offseason.

TEAM OUTLOOK

Hazel Green enters the 2026 season coming off a strong 25-13 campaign in 2025 that ended with a first-round playoff loss to Cullman. With a veteran-heavy roster returning and Andrew Dennis taking over as head coach after moving from New Hope, the Trojans head into the spring with high expectations and a roster built to compete at a high level in Class 6A Area 16 and beyond.

The Trojans return a deep group of upperclass contributors who will anchor both the lineup and pitching staff. INF/RHP Bryce Zimmerman (2026) returns as a key two-way piece, joined by UTL/RHP Andrew Beaverson (Wallace State CC, 2026), who brings experience and versatility across the diamond. RHP Elijah Steele (2026) adds another senior arm to a pitching staff that features multiple returning contributors. The junior class provides additional depth with 3B/RHP Colton Clark (2027) and UTL/RHP Kolton Bentley (2027), both of whom factor into the lineup and pitching mix. OF/LHP Ty Hunter (2028) returns as an underclass contributor expected to continue playing a role on both sides of the ball. Hazel Green’s depth extends throughout the roster. C/RHP Blain White (2027) returns behind the plate while also contributing on the mound, and the outfield group includes OF/LHP Colby Atkins (2027), OF/RHP Garrett Mullins (2027), and OF Chase Russell (2027). Additional versatility comes from RHP/1B Hayden Schell (2027), LHP Isaac Romaniuk (2027) and MIF Jackson Crippen (2027), giving the Trojans options across the field as roles are finalized. INF Max Stevenson (2029) adds underclass depth as the season progresses.

Veteran experience, athleticism, positional depth, and a deep lineup define Hazel Green’s identity entering 2026. With a pitching staff that returns multiple arms and a lineup capable of length, the Trojans are built to navigate a demanding schedule that includes the Prep Baseball Kickoff Classic, Madison City Classic, and Gulf Coast Classic. As head coach Andrew Dennis noted, “This team has an opportunity to be one of the best in the state regardless of classification. Veteran team, deep on the mound and the potential to have a very deep lineup. If they can stay healthy and continue to improve while navigating a tough schedule, I think this team can be a real championship contender come playoff time.” With experience returning and expectations high, Hazel Green enters the 2026 season aiming to contend deep into the postseason.
