Uncommitted Spotlight: Raffael Chiarella

We continue our coverage of uncommitted players, spotlighting them to help maximize their exposure and assist them in the recruiting process. Today, we look at 2022 LHP Raffael Chiarella (Bishop Gorman).

LHP Raffael Chiarella (Bishop Gorman)- 6-foot-3, 175 pounds. Long, slender frame. Athletic with some twitch. Long limbed with a ton of room to add size and strength. Projectable build with development that should reflect is increase physicality. Tall, narrow set up. Quick, efficient delivery. High peaking leg kick with slight coil. Extended, on line stride. Exaggerated extension after release. Balanced finished with some tendency to fall forward/3B side. Long, loose arm action. High 3/4 arm slot. Does tend to shorten up on secondary pitches. Arm action projects, especially as he adds velocity.

FB: Max 85 mph. Sat 82-85 mph. Produces some ASR and downhill action.

CB: 65-69 mph. Avg. Spin Rate - 2043 RPM. Good shape that works well off his FB. Kept it down in the zone.

CH: 72-78 mph. Some sink and fade. Slight slows up his arm. Does show feel for the pitch. Potential above average pitch as he continues to gain feel.

SL: 64-67 mph. Avg. Spin Rate - 2083 RPM. Some sweeping action. Comes out on the same plane as his FB. Could be potential plus pitch down the road.
