Christophe Alexander SS / RHP / Mayfield, OH / 2025Rankings StateRank: 49 / POS: 9
MAYFIELD VILLAGE - Uncertainty and underappreciation put Christophe Alexander behind the eight ball in his recruiting process. But the ninth-rated 2025 shortstop in Ohio believes he is closing in on a college decision as his senior year of high school reaches the midway point. “All of high school I’ve been under the radar,” Alexander said. “I didn’t take my recruitment seriously until it was too late. I was immature and playing a couple of other sports and didn’t know what I was going to do. My GPA was the worst. But as the years have gone on I realized college baseball is what I wanted to do and I’ve locked in on my grades and training.” A fall event with Prep Baseball played a vital role in the 17-year-old getting noticed by college coaches. “Before the fall there wasn’t much interest,” the Mayfield High School senior explained. “I had a good summer but wasn’t getting many coaches to reach out. I hadn’t done any Prep Baseball since my freshman year and that was a disadvantage to me. In the fall I did an Uncommitted Showcase for 25 and 26’s and after that I got a lot of interest in schools, more JUCO and D-III looks. “The event was good with a lot of good players and I got to show what I could do with my metrics and after that playing a game. I regret not doing any Prep Baseballs since I was a freshman. Right after the event the head guy in Ohio (Kyle Weldon, Prep Baseball Ohio Director of Scouting) got in contact with some schools which really helped me get my name out there.” Miami of Ohio, Findlay and John Logan were among the colleges that had Alexander on their radar. “In November, after hearing from Kyle Weldon with Prep Baseball, John Logan reached out,” Alexander related. “They said they’d love to have me on a visit and I went there two weeks ago and they offered me a spot. “Recently William & Mary also reached out to see if D-I was still a possibility,” Alexander noted. “But with all the new rules, I think JUCO may be a good way to go to get reps on the field and take a year or two to develop. D-I schools will then take a look to see you’re tested as a player and more likely get you for your junior and senior years instead of being untested for two years as a freshman and sophomore.” So what have colleges been missing out on when it comes to the 49th-ranked 2025 in Ohio? “The love I have for the game,” Alexander responded to the question. “With my grind, I believe I can be an asset for any program that picks me up. My abilities scale across all divisions of play. With my speed and power, I feel a team would be lucky to have me. “I think my in-game intelligence is good with my ability of knowing when to do things,” Alexander added. “I’m just a heads-up player with pretty good speed, power and instincts.” Improvement has proved vital in making an impression on college coaches. “When I was a freshman I was running a 7.6 60 and my exit velo was mid-80s,” Alexander reflected. “These last three years I’ve got in the weight room and just exploded my progress and just experienced playing baseball. Getting bigger and stronger helped out, coaches saw my ability and it went on from there.” The 5-10 180-pounder, who has the potential to play outfield in addition to middle infield, is now clocked at 6.6 in the 60 with an exit velocity of 100. “I’m not going to be disappointed if I don’t go D-I,” Alexander explained. “I don’t need a flashy commitment post. It’s where I’m at in the end that matters. I feel two years of junior college might be the best route for me to be able to go further than guys going D-I right out of high school. I have no doubt I will get picked up by a D-I school after a year or two at a JUCO.” Business management is a potential major for Alexander, a 3.0 student at Mayfield closing in on a college decision. “All of my coaches have been telling me you’re going to find a home and not to rush a commitment,” Alexander concluded. “I could still get on a D-I roster but I don’t want to be a D-I last resort. I’m not sure I want to wait for spring. I’m hoping to make a commitment soon.” |
