Best of the Fall 2026: Catcher Defensive Leaders — Pop Times & Positional Velocity
As part of our Best of the Fall 2026 series, today we focus on the defensive side of the game behind the plate, highlighting catchers who stood out for pop times and positional arm velocity during fall events across North Carolina.
Catcher defensive evaluations were conducted through simulated stolen base attempts, with catchers working from the crouch and making throws to second base. This game-like setup allows Prep Baseball staff to evaluate how quickly and efficiently catchers move through their transfer and release, while also capturing arm velocity, pop times, and high-quality video.
These metrics—paired with video—provide college coaches and professional scouts on the Prep Baseball platform with a detailed look at a catcher’s defensive ability. The leaderboards below feature both overall leaders from the fall and class-by-class standouts, spotlighting catchers whose defensive tools separated themselves in live-action evaluations.
