The 2025 Texas high school baseball season is quickly approaching and, as usual, excitement is abound throughout the state. Players and coaches have been working in preparation for the upcoming season and, as is the case each year, there are some very talented players and teams across Texas.

Teams across the state have goals and aspirations to finish their seasons in Austin at the UIL State Tournament in June, but there is plenty of work to be done before that becomes reality. We hope to familiarize our readers with many of the teams across the state as we preview individual teams across Texas. We will take you right up to first pitch this season with these team previews, eventually releasing our Preseason Power 30 rankings that’ll carry us into the opening week of action.

TEAM OUTLOOK

Head Coach Russell Krenek and the Katy Taylor Mustangs enter the 2025 season with optimism after a 20-13-1 campaign that concluded with a Bi-District appearance. Expecting to be built around their strong team chemistry, the Mustangs aim to build on last year’s momentum and make a deeper playoff push this spring. Their balanced roster, featuring experienced upperclassmen and promising young talent, sets the stage for an exciting season.

The team will lean heavily on the leadership and production of returning standout OF/1B Carlos Cardozo (Florida Gulf Coast commit), who earned First Team All-District honors in 2024. RHP/OF Easton Wolf, still uncommitted, provides versatility and potential as a key contributor on both the mound and in the lineup. Adding to the firepower is Coach Krenek’s son, LHP Bryce Krenek (Texas commit), a unanimous First Team All-District selection and Prep Baseball Future Games participant in 2024, whose dominant presence on the mound should anchor the staff. MIF Davidenko Rodriguez, OF/INF Zach Larsen, and RHP Caden Stambolis—all members of the Class of 2026—add depth and spark, with Rodriguez and Larsen coming off impressive 2024 campaigns.

The Mustangs also welcome several promising newcomers, including UTL/1B Keller Hensley, an uncommitted senior ready to make an impact on varsity. Sophomores CIF/C Zach Phillips and C/OF Hudson Schultz bring energy and versatility, offering a glimpse into the program's future. With a blend of seasoned veterans and emerging talent, Katy Taylor is poised to leverage its team-first mentality and chemistry in pursuit of a deeper playoff run in 2025.
