IE Future Games Trials: Corner INF Analysis

NORCO, CA. - With the spring season finishing and players preparing for the Summer, we got a chance to get a good look at a group of impressive 2021-2022 players. We saw some of these players during our coverage during the high school season and previous events, but there was a group of players giving us very good first looks.

Earlier we released our Quick Hits providing some early impressions of the players at the event. Then we looked at the top statistical performers in our statistical analysis. We also broke down the catchers from Inland Empire Future Games Trials in this piece.

Today we take a look at the Corner Infielders from the event.

Scouting Report

Uncommitted. Five-foot-8, 160-pounds. Medium frame with strength in lower half and through shoulders. Aggressive swings at the plate from an upright setup that uses a leg lift trigger to initiate swing. Hands are quick-to-fast while getting the barrel on plane through the zone. Gets lift on the ball when his timing is right. Has some explosiveness in the barrel presently. Defensively Mifflin shows fundamentally sound footwork around the bag at first. Funnels the ball out front with soft hands. Exchanges were clean while throws were accurate to each bag. On the mound Mifflin has an athletic, repeatable delivery. Shows the ability to throw three pitches for strikes with a fastball, curveball, changeup sequence. Arm is compact and comes from a consistent 3/4 slot from a drop-and-drive delivery. Fastball shows some run to the arm side while the curveball flashes sharp, biting action with fair depth and shows feel for the changeup that when thrown with conviction flashes tight spin with late sinking action.

Scouting Report

Moeller once again impressed with his overall game. At 6-foot, 175-pounds there’s some physicality to his frame, but there’s room for continued strength gains. After registering a 91 mph exit velocity off a tee Moeller took to the field where he sprayed line drives to all fields showing a penchant for the right center field gap. Shows a middle-middle approach with some present power that should develop. Maintains the barrel on plane creating excellent angle at point of contact. He’s a slick fielding first baseman with nimble and agile footwork. Understands angles and gets there before the ball. Athleticism really stood out during the defensive workout portion. On the mound he pounds the zone with a fastball/curveball/changeup mix showing excellent command of both pitches. Fastball topped at 85 with life and run to the arm side as it enters the zone. He’s able to spot it consistently. Curveball shows depth and can be sharp while the changeup has fading action away from righties.

Scouting Report

Howarth is a 6-foot, 195-pound, athletic player that impressed with his present power, size, and athleticism. Ran a 7.34 laser-timed 60 yard dash. Shows present pop to all fields from his middle-middle approach. Uses his entire body very well. Starts slightly open and uses a leg lift trigger to initiate his swing. Shows excellent feel for the barrel through the zone which maintains on plane with hands in excellent launch position. Drove balls to the fence consistently during his BP round and registered an 87 mph exit velocity off a tee. Defensively he shows smooth hands and excellent footwork for a player his size. Arm was accurate on all throws and registered a 77 mph infield velocity.

Scouting Report

Uncommitted. Six-foot-3, 200-pounds. Extra large, long, developing frame. Some present strength in the shoulders down to the wrist, but the body really projects for continued physical development and added strength. Landaas starts with a cocked load that leads into solid contact. Hands start in launch position and are average speed through the zone. Maintains barrel on plane through zone and into extension. Has present pop that should develop consistency with continued maturation. Defensively Landaas worked out at first base where he showed average footwork with quick hands and a strong, accurate arm. Understands angles off the bat.

Scouting Report

Uncommitted. Six-foot-1, 183-pounds. Long, lean, wiry strong frame that has strength evenly distributed presently. Body projects for future strength gains. At the plate starts with an upright, slightly open stance before he rocks back and into the ball. Does a great job incorporating the lower half into his swing using the momentum to whip the barrel through zone with his fast hands. Shows present power to all fields and from all quadrants in the zone. Finish is consistent through extension. Defensively he shows active feet with plus instincts and hands. Exchanges were clean and fast - he got rid of the ball in a hurry - with an accurate strong arm. Athleticism on display when moving to his sides or charging the ball where his footwork is excellent along with his body control that allows him to get to balls in a position to make a play.

Scouting Report

Uncommitted. Six-foot, 160-pounds. Long, lean, wiry strong frame that has ample room to fill out with added strength. High waist, long legs. May not be done growing either. At the plate he does an excellent job using his thin, long frame by rocking into his swing with a slight leg lift timing mechanism. Starts with hands high and drops them into launch angle before driving back hip - with elbow attached to midsection - and hands into the ball. A bit pull happy presently, Sanchez did show the ability to stay in the middle of the field during his BP. Defensively Sanchez showed athletic actions at third base where his footwork, quick hands, and arm strength were on display. Shows range to both sides and the ability to make throws from multiple angles with accuracy. Excellent control of his body. On the mound Sanchez is a sidewinder with movement on every pitch. Hides ball well adding to the discomfort caused by the sidearm action. Slider showed to be best present pitch as the pitch falls off the table as it enters the zone with it’s late sweeping action. Changeup is incredibly effective pitch as it runs off the same plane as the fastball with a difference of close to 7 mph.
