THE FIVE: Uncommitted 2019 Pitchers from SoCal

Les Lukach
State Scouting Director

The old adage in baseball is "you have to be strong up the middle." Well, it all starts with the guy who touches the ball on every pitch. Wether right-handed or left, pitchers are one of the most important players on the field, some might argue they're the single most important player. In any case, colleges are always looking for pitching because, as the other adage goes, "you can never have too much pitching."

While many of the frontline high school arm have been committed for a year or more, there are those guys whose development has taken a little longer and often times those guys result in better long term prospects. While many people get giddy about velocity, good evaluators look for signs of a pitchers ability that have nothing to do with numbers on a radar gun.

In this issue of THE FIVE, we'll look at five pitchers (listed in no particular order) that are certain to have an opportunity to play baseball on the collegiate level.
