The 6-foot-3, 168-pound short stop from Pine Creek made a big splash in the state of Colorado when he committed to Stanford University. McEvoy who will star for Pine Creek this spring as a senior, has spent this
fall playing for Slammers Zavaras and representing Colorado baseball across the country. McEvoy will look to build on a junior spring that saw him collect 2nd team Al-Conference honors and return Pine Creek deep into the post season .
PBR recently caught up with Peter McEvoy after his commitment to Stanford.
PBR: Why did you choose Stanford?
McEvoy: Stanford offers the opportunity to earn an incredible degree and to compete for a national championship every year. I've also dreamed of playing baseball there since I was a kid. It was an easy decision for me really.
PBR: Where did Stanford first see you compete?
McEvoy: I attended their camp during summer before junior year. I also played in front of the coaching staff in the Junior Fall Classic and again at their camp this past summer.
PBR: What role do the coaches expect you to play during your first year on campus?
McEvoy: My role as a freshman hasn't been explicitly defined, though I'll help the team in whatever way the coaches ask of me. Whether that means starting at shortstop or filling the water coolers, I don't know yet.
PBR: What is your biggest strength as a player and how do you feel that will help Stanford?
McEvoy: My biggest strength is my defense. Stanford is known for outstanding defense, so I should fit right in.
PBR: Who has had the biggest impact on you as a baseball player?
McEvoy: Clint Zavaras of Slammers. I've played with him for the past two falls and the past summer. He's a great coach to play for. He expects a lot out of us and constantly pushes us to play to the best of our ability.
PBR: Who do you play for in the summer and what was your most exciting experience?
McEvoy: I play for Slammers Zavaras in the summer. Like I mentioned before, I attended Stanford's camp this past summer. To be able to play in front of the coaches and on Sunken Diamond was a great experience. We traveled as a team to tournaments in Phoenix and Joplin too, but the Stanford camp was the highlight of my summer.
PBR: Who is the toughest pitcher you have faced in Colorado?
McEvoy: Paul Tillotson of Lewis Palmer High School. I've played with and against him since we were ten, and he's always been an excellent pitcher.
PBR: What are your goals both individually and for the team going into your senior season?
McEvoy: As a team, we're working to return to the state tournament after a two year absence and bring home Pine Creek's first state baseball title. Individually, I'm looking to help my team win games and to set a good example for the younger guys. We're a senior heavy team this year, so it'll be important for us to leave a positive impression on the younger guys so they can continue the tradition of excellence at Pine Creek.
