The 2026 Scorpions High School Tryouts took place January 9-11 in Orlando and Winter Haven, FL. The event featured players from the 2027-2030 classes participating in bullpens on Friday, a pro-style workout on Saturday, and gameplay on Sunday in front of the Prep Baseball Florida Scouting Staff.

Today, we will highlight the standout players from the 2026 Scorpions High School Tryouts.

Standouts

Bryce Conner 1B / 3B / Melbourne High School, FL / 2028

Physical 6-3, 200-pound corner infielder. Power profile with a max exit velocity of 100 mph, showing the ability to drive the ball with authority. Strong rotational acceleration (up to 21g) and a direct path that produces consistent hard contact, particularly pull-side, with room to refine approach and add even more impact as he matures.

Morgan Corder 1B / RHP / Spruce Creek High School, FL / 2027

6-3, 175-pound uncommitted two-way. On the mound, he was up to 89 mph, featuring strong ride (19.7 IVB avg) and arm-side run (9.1 HM avg) at spin rates up to 2188 rpm. Slider (76-79 mph, spin avg 2155 rpm) showed sharp bite and added a changeup (82-83 mph) with fade for deception against righties. Offensively, his left-handed swing produces consistent hard contact with a steep attack angle and gap-oriented power.

Samuel Craig 3B / RHP / The Villages Charter, FL / 2028

Craig displayed two-way tools with a 96 mph max exit velocity and a fastball that touched 88 mph, featuring solid ride (17.1 IVB avg) and ASR (8.6 HM avg) at spin rates up to 2268 rpm. His swing generates consistent hard contact and pull-side authority (max distance 357 feet), while on the mound he mixes a high-spin slider (76-80 mph, avg 2414 rpm) with late bite, a curveball (73-75 mph) for depth, and a changeup (79-84 mph) that flashes fade to create separation.

Kevin Cusick 3B / RHP / Lyman High School, FL / 2027

6-3, 195-pound frame, posting a 96 mph max exit velocity and a fastball that sat 88-90 mph featuring heavy arm-side run (18.2 HM avg) at spin rates up to 2286 rpm and a high-spin slider (71-75 mph, avg 2371 rpm) with sharp late bite. Cusick shows athletic actions in the infield with a strong arm (94 mph INF velo), explosive lower-half drive at the plate, and clean arm on the mound. FAU recruit.

Croix DiBacco 1B / RHP / Bartram Trail, FL / 2027

DiBacco brought physical presence and power with a 98 mph max exit velocity and a fastball that climbed to 91 mph. He produces hard, elevated contact with power potential (max distance 362 feet), while on the mound he mixes a slider (74-76 mph, spin avg 2157 rpm) with late bite, a curveball (66-70 mph) with depth and sweep, and a changeup (81-83 mph) that flashes fade for deception.

Jeter Farina SS / 3B / Oakleaf High School, FL / 2027

Jacksonville recruit. Strong 5-10, 194-pound frame, posting a 94 mph max exit velocity and consistent hard contact driven by quick hands (23 mph peak). Farina sprayed line drives with emerging pull-side power that projects for more impact. Defensively, shows dependable actions on the left side of the infield with an above-average arm.

Ryne Fennell SS / C / Homeschool (FL), FL / 2029

Fennell reached an 89 mph max exit velocity with consistent hard contact driven by a direct path and quick hands (20 mph peak). Produces line-drive authority with emerging gap power, while in the outfield, he flashed a strong arm up to 90 mph.

Gabriel Gonzalez SS / 2B / Melbourne Senior High School, FL / 2027

Switch-hitting shortstop committed to JU. Impressed with a 6.76 60-yard dash, while posting a 97 mph max exit velocity and consistent hard contact from both sides of the plate. He showed quick hands (24 mph peak), strong rotational acceleration (26g—top-tier for the event), and excellent on-plane efficiency (75%) that produces elevated line drives and gap power with carry (max distance 328 feet), projecting for more impact as he adds strength.

Grayson Greene LHP / 1B / Suwannee, FL / 2027

Southpaw showcased a fastball sitting 85-87 mph (T88) that featured exceptional ride (22.8 IVB avg) and slight running action (8.2 HM avg) at spin rates up to 2148 rpm. His secondary mix includes a high-spin slider (73-74 mph, peaking at 2501 rpm) with sharp late bite and sweep for whiffs, plus a changeup (78-81 mph) that maintains arm speed with fade and tumble to disrupt right-handers—creating a deceptive, three-pitch profile. Northwest Florida State recruit.

David Gundel RHP / 1B / Timber Creek High, FL / 2029

Gundel showed upside at Scorps tryouts with a fastball sitting 80-84 mph (T85) that featured strong induced vertical break (18.8 IVB avg) and arm-side run (7.5 HM avg) at spin rates up to 2161 rpm. His slider (73-75 mph, spin peaking at 2590 rpm) brings sharp late bite and sweep for whiff potential, while the changeup (75-78 mph) adds fade and tumble to create separation. Gundel works from a high 3/4 arm slot with clean mechanics, long extension, and downhill plane from his lengthy frame.

Brady Heminger LHP / Cardinal Newman High School, FL / 2028

6-3, 190-pound southpaw with a fastball sitting 86-87 mph at spin rates peaking at 2334 rpm. His slider (69-73 mph, spin up to 2132 rpm) brings late bite, complemented by a changeup (76-78 mph) that maintains arm speed with fade. 

Maxwell Kaiser C / OF / St. Thomas Aquinas, FL / 2028

Kaiser impressed with his advanced defensive feel and pop times as low as 1.86-1.87, paired with an 82 mph catcher velo, showing quick transfers and a strong, accurate arm behind the plate. Offensively, he showed exceptional rotational acceleration (28g—among the event's highest) and a steep attack angle that drives hard, elevated contact with consistent carry, and emerging power potential.

Luke Loeb OF / RHP / Spruce Creek High School, FL / 2027

Loeb turned in a strong two-way showing with a 100 mph max exit velo and a fastball that sat 84-86 mph (T87) with ride (19.7 IVB avg) and ASR (8.8 HM avg) at spin rates up to 2268 rpm. Loeb displays athletic actions in the outfield with a solid arm (83 mph OF velo). Offensively, has quick hands (23 mph hand speed) with gap power.

Buggy Matthews LHP / OF / Bartram Trail, FL / 2029

6-0, 180-pound two-way. Up to 87 on the mound. Has a biting slider (69-73 mph), depthy curveball (70-72 mph), and fading changeup (72-74 mph). Balanced, rhythmic approach with quick hands at the dish. Swing generates hard, elevated contact (50% fly balls, max exit 90 mph) with gap power that projects for more carry as he adds strength.

Colton McClenaghan SS / 2B / Bartram Trail, FL / 2029

McClenaghan shows smooth defensive actions, quick exchanges, and an accurate arm (86 mph INF velo). Offensively, had an 89 mph max exit velo with a short, level path that sprays line drives (71% fly balls/sweet spot), leaving room for added power as he continues filling out.

Max Merryman RHP / OF / Lakeland Christian School, FL / 2029

Merryman showed a fastball that reached 89 mph (87-88 range), with lively ride (19.1 IVB avg) and arm-side tail (7.4 HM avg). Tight slider (76-78 mph) with late bite and sweep for whiffs, plus a changeup (78-83 mph) that flashes tumble and arm-speed consistency. 88 EV offensively.

Anthony Panetta RHP / OF / Trinity Christian Academy, FL / 2028

6-1, 195-pounder showcased his arm talent with a fastball sitting 88-90 mph (T91) that generated 15.5 IVB  and arm-side tail (7.5 HM avg) at spin rates peaking at 2450 rpm. Slider (74-79 mph, spin up to 2573 rpm) delivers late bite and sweep for whiffs, while the changeup (84 mph) flashes tumble to disrupt timing.

Elijah Prisciandaro OF / RHP / TNXL Academy, FL / 2028

Prisciandaro showed off his two-way ability, including a 97 mph max exit velocity and a fastball that climbed to 93 mph (90-92 range) with noticeable sink (10 IVB avg) at spin rates peaking at 2505 rpm. Slider (74-76 mph, spin up to 2659 rpm) offers late sweep. He was 97 from the outfield as well.

Ethan Rice RHP / 1B / Winter Springs High School, FL / 2028

Physical 6-3, 225-pound frame. At the plate, he generates hard, pull-heavy contact with quick rotation (max EV 90 mph) and a leveraged path that produces elevated barrels. On the mound, fastball touching 89 mph (85-89 range) that showed heavy sink and arm-side run (17.4 HM avg) with spin rates up to 2155 rpm.

Jayden Rinehart OF / LHP / Spruce Creek High School, FL / 2027

Athletic outfielder with bat speed and a 97 mph max exit velocity, generating hard contact and quick rotational torque. Swing stays compact and direct with lively hand speed (23 mph peak) and consistent barrels to the gaps.

Brady Roberts OF / RHP / Satellite Senior High School, FL / 2027

Roberts showcased dynamic two-way tools with a 98 mph max exit velocity and a fastball that sat 84-86 mph (T87), carrying ride (15.2 IVB avg) and arm-side run (12.7 HM avg) at spin rates up to 2273 rpm. Offensively, has barrel speed (23 mph peak hand speed) and a steep attack angle that produces hard, consistent contact with gap-to-gap carry (max distance 326 feet), while on the mound, his slider (70-72 mph, spin peaking at 2358 rpm) delivers sweep. 

Ryland Sander OF / RHP / Winter Springs High School, FL / 2028

Sander flashed projectable two-way upside. Fastball that sat 84-87 mph (T88) at 21.2 IVB avg and arm-side run (9.2 HM avg). Offensively, has quick hands (22 mph peak) that drive consistent hard contact and elevated line drives (63% fly balls, max EV 90 mph).

Hudson Sapp 3B / SS / F. W. Buchholz High School, FL / 2027

Sapp showed defensive instincts and bat-to-ball feel with a 94 mph max exit velocity and consistent hard contact. Swing stays direct and efficient with lively hand speed (21 mph peak) that sprays line drives and fly balls, producing gap carry and emerging power potential as he continues building strength.

Evan Sproull SS / RHP / St Johns Country Day, FL / 2029

Sproull stood out with a swing that stays compact with quick hand speed (20 mph peak) and a direct path producing consistent hard contact and line-drive carry (89 EV). Defensively displays smooth infield range with a quick release (86 mph INF velo).

Collin Strickland OF / OF / Spruce Creek High School, FL / 2027

Army recruit delivered one of the louder offensive showings with his 5-11, 191-pound frame, launching a 99 mph max exit velocity and a max batted ball distance of 368 feet that highlighted his present carry and pull-side authority. Swing features explosive rotational torque (13g acceleration) and a leveraged path.

Nick Tanko 2B / SS / Trinity Catholic High School, FL / 2027

Tanko showed barrel control, posting a 97 mph max exit velo. Swing remains short and direct with lively hand speed (24 mph peak). Fluid defensive actions up the middle with quick exchanges and a solid arm (86 mph INF velo).

Cole Udell RHP / Lake Mary High School, FL / 2027

6-1, 195-pound frame with a fastball sitting 88-89 mph (T90) that showed heavy ride (19.1 IVB avg) and arm-side tail (12.7 HM avg) at spin rates peaking at 2348 rpm for natural life through the zone. Udell works from a clean, high 3/4 arm slot with repeatable mechanics, extension, and downhill plane. Secondary offers deception with a slider (78-79 mph) with late sweep and bite, plus a changeup (83-84 mph) that flashes tumble.

Dylan Williams RHP / SS / Marathon School, FL / 2027

Williams showed a fastball that reached 88 mph (85-87 range), showing exceptional ride (22.5 IVB avg) and arm-side run (10.7 HM avg) at spin rates peaking at 2380 rpm. His slider (73-77 mph) delivers tight depth for whiff potential. At the plate, he delivered pull-heavy contact with quick hand speed (19 mph peak) and a leveraged path (max EV 87 mph).

Britton Wise OF / RHP / Mount Dora Christian Academy, FL / 2027

Wise had an explosive two-way showing that included a 98 mph max exit velocity and a fastball that reached 91 mph, carrying noticeable ride (14.2 IVB avg) and arm-side tail (10.7 HM avg) at spin rates up to 2178 rpm. He ran a 6.72 60 and showed heavy rotational force (22g acceleration) and a leveraged path that drives hard, elevated contact with pull-side power (max distance 378 feet).

Jax Yuzzolin 1B / RHP / Lake Mary High School, FL / 2029

6-3, 205-pound frame. Heavy pull-side contact with a steep attack angle and rotation that drives elevated carry (max EV 93 mph, max distance 350 feet) from the left side. Strong power potential as he continues to mature. Also up to 86 on the mound.

David Zitnick C / 3B / Cardinal Newman High School, FL / 2028

Strong-framed catcher with clean transfers, quiet receiving, and an accurate arm. Offensively, stays short and direct with quick hands (24 mph peak) that generate hard, consistent contact up to 98 EV.
