Northern 2021 Follows

Deep into the spring, the 2021 class continues to make its presence felt, and as the summer quickly approaches, college coaches are starting to put together “follow” lists for their travels. This week, On the Hunt looks at some uncommitted 2021 players from northern states that schools will likely be following all summer.

DJ Pacheco SS / 3B / St. John's Prep, MA / 2021

Pacheco is a big part of what is already shaping up to be a strong class out of New England for 2021. Currently 6-foot, 175-pounds with some lean strength throughout an athletic frame, he still exhibits signs of packing on substantial strength in the future. He took a mature round of batting practice at the PBR New England Procase in February where he remained balanced from the right side while spraying firm line drives to all fields. The head remains quiet as the barrel works flat through the zone with quick hands. His short stride connects well with a fluent hands load, and he could see much more power (current 91 mph exit velocity off tee) in the future as he continues filling out, as his wrists already showcase strength and he gets solid use of the lower-half. An adequate runner (7.0 60-yard dash) who should continue to get faster, Pacheco has smooth footwork in the field, and his confident hands may give him a chance to stick at shortstop at the next level, though if he grows out of the position, he could end up as an advanced defender at third base. Overall, Pacheco is a player that college coaches are going to want to get eyes on early in the summer, and track his progress moving forward.
