BTL Scout Day: Quick Hits

Eliott Wilk
Central Region Operations Director

On Saturday, February 1st, the Prep Baseball Kansas staff traveled to the BTL Indoor Facility in Shawnee, KS to host the annual BTL Scout Day. This event, featured 25players from the BTL program in attendence.

All of our events offer players the opportunity to update their recruiting resume and showcase their talents in front of our staff. We also use these events as identifiers for future invite-only events, like the Preseason All-State, our summer Top Prospect Games, and the prestigious Prep Baseball Future Games that takes place at the tail end of the summer. To see what our events offer, click HERE.

Earlier, our staff rolled out the day’s statistical standouts in leaderboard format within our ‘Stat Story’, which you can find HERE. Today, after combing through our notes from the day, we’ve compiled some of the event’s standouts within these ‘Quick Hits’. Read below to learn about 7 names that popped to our staff from Saturday's trip to Shawnee.

QUICK HITS

+ C Clayton Anderson (Gardner-Edgerton, 2025; Barton CC commit) continues to impress on both sides of the ball, putting together the loudest round of BP of the day from this look. The 6-foot, 158-pound backstop consistently found the barrel with authority, averaging 96.1 mph per batted ball with a top mark of 101.2 mph. His quick inside out swing showed inherent bat speed (76.6 mph average) and strength, repeatedly driving the ball to right center. From behind the plate Anderson produced 1.87-1.92 pop times with a 77 mph mark from the chute - both top marks on the day. As he continues to polish off his game, Anderson has the chance to make a big impact at the next level.

+ One of the top two-way talents in the Kansas 2027 class, it was on the mound where RHP/INF Jackson Barker (Shawnee Mission South, 2027) shined brightest in this one. Well known to our staff as an elite strike thrower, Barker did precisely that in this look, commanding both sides of the plate with all four of his pitches. The 6-foot-2, 200-pound sophomore ran his fastball up to 85.4 mph, sitting from 84-85 mph. Off of that he spun two distinct breaking balls that tunneled off of his fastball with a curveball at 72-73 mph and a horizontal breaking slider at 73-75 mph. He also turned over a changeup at 77 mph. At the plate, Barker posted a max exit velocity of 93.2 mph to go alongside a 87 mph infield velocity.

+ INF/RHP Landon Batten (Olathe North, 2028) is projectable as they come in a 6-foot-4, 190-pound frame. At the plate, the long-limbed freshman worked back through the middle of the field, producing low-90s exit velocities. With plenty more to come both at the plate and on the mound, Batten is a player to keep an eye on in the ‘28 class.

+ Continuing to emerge as a name to follow in the ‘27 class, OF/1B Everett Sims (Shawnee Mission South, 2027) looked the part on both sides of the ball from Sunday’s event. Easily one of the most physical players in the class at 6-foot-4, 211-pounds, Sims possesses big power potential at the plate, effortlessly reaching exit velocities in the mid-to-upper-90s with an impressive average of 88.3 mph. He barrelled his best ball 97.5 mph, sending it 329 feet - the top mark on the day. The sophomore also reached 85 mph from the outfield on his firmest throw. As he continues to show that he can produce against high level competition, Sims is a name to have on the radar.

+ RHP Justin Carpiniello (Olathe North, 2028) is a physical freshman that caught our eye on the mound from this event. At 5-foot-11, 200-pounds, Carpiniello showed a clean arm action with more to come with the addition of strength, throwing his fastball in the upper-70s to low-80s, topping out at 82.8 mph. His best secondary pitch at the moment looks to be his tight spinning curveball which tunneled well off of his fastball and showed swing and miss potential at 68-69 mph. He also turned over a low spin changeup at 70-71 mph with arm side fade.

+ OF/RHP Vince Carpiniello (Olathe North, 2027) put together an all around strong performance in this look. Capriniello kicked off the day by showing off his athleticism, posting the day's top 30 time with a 3.97 mark. At the plate, the sophomore showed advanced hand speed (21.9 mph avg.), consistently finding barrels from both sides of the plate. He also posted a 84 mph OF velo and wrapped up the day by showing command of a three pitch mix on the mound. Carpiniello will be a name to watch as he adds strength.

+ C Connor Witt (Shawnee Mission West, 2027) is another name that popped to our staff from the ‘27 class. A switch-hitting backstop, Witt showed a compact, repeatable swing from both sides of the plate. He sprayed line drives to all fields throughout his rounds, displaying a swing that will play in game against high end velo and reaching a peak exit velocity of 87.9 mph (80.5 mph avg.). From behind the plate, the sophomore produced 2.01-2.04 pop times with a 71 mph catcher velocity and 79 mph infield velocity to pair.
