Super 60 Spotlight: Ian Daugherty

On Sunday, Feb. 7, Prep Baseball Report will host the 19th edition of its prestigious, flagship event: the Super 60 Pro Showcase. Since the event’s inception in 2003, more than 300 players have been selected in the MLB Draft, including 22 first-round picks and 25 second-rounders.
We started our our march toward the Super 60 earlier this month, by highlighting the prospects set to join us, shining a light on their impressive player profiles that they've groomed through their high school years and beyond.

Scouting Report
Oklahoma State commit. The 6-foot-2, 215-pound backstop features an advanced physical frame with athleticism and noticeable strength. The right-handed hitter begins with an even stance utilizing a lift-and-replace stride to initiate a slightly uphill barrel path into the hitting zone. Generated backspin deep to both gaps off the tee and showcased advanced barrel whip with regularity. Made loud contact and found the barrel consistently evidenced by a 93 mph bat-exit velocity off the tee. Recorded a 7.28 60-yard dash. The backstop showed advanced receiving abilities with minimal body sway and a soft glove hand at the catch point. Pop times ranged from 1.81-1.91 on accurate throws of 80 mph from the crouch. Quick transfers and a powerful lower half allowed for repeatable throws on the bag out of a short, high ¾ arm-slot.

A physically advanced 6-foot-2, 190-pound frame with some strength. Offensively, the right-handed hitter bats from a wide and balanced set-up with rhythm throughout. Uses a short stride before launching his strong hands on a flat path to contact with a high finish, some length. In BP, shows a middle to opposite field approach, mostly barrels,advanced pop, 84 mph exit velo. Runs a 7.45 60. Defensively, shows a big target and receives with strong hands and limited movement, advanced blocker consistently killing the ball in front of him. Shows advanced 1.96-2.06 pop times with consistent footwork and exchanges, throws from a ¾ slot with arm strength and some accuracy, 77 mph.

A physically advanced 6-foot-2, 190-pound frame with some strength. On the mound, the right-hander works from an average tempo delivery with high leg kick and abbreviated stride down the mound, finishing in line with the dish. Arm action is fluid and very short in the back, coming through a high-¾ slot with some quickness. Fastball keeps its plane at 80-82 mph. Slider is short and sharp with late depth and 10/4 shape at 68-70 mph. Changeup shows some fade at 72-73 mph. In the game, threw strikes with all three pitches and got constantly weak contact.

Defensively, receives quietly from a balanced and flexible base with strong and soft hands. An advanced blocker, killing the ball short and in front and moving laterally well. On throw downs, does not come out of his crouch early, showing quick footwork, and throwing from a short arm stroke coming through a near over the top slot with arm speed and accuracy at 77 mph to second base with showcase pop times of 1.94-2.07. In the game, went 2-for-3 with two line drive singles.
