Throughout the preseason we'll be highlighting standout newcomers with our Rookie Review installments. A Junior southpaw impressed in early March at Ascent Scout Day with significant arm-talent and a high ceiling on the bump.

ROOKIE REVIEW

What We Liked: The athletic 6-foot-1, 185lb lefty featured a starter's profile during his 'pen, turning up the heat with a couple 90 mph fastballs out of the gate. A fluid mover down the slope with good extension, Crowe maintained arm-speed on a seasoned four-pitch arsenal. The delivery repeated on-time with some drop/drive in the lower half allowing for a lower 5-foot release and 21 inches of IVB to the top of the zone, creating possible swing and miss chances. There was plenty to like in a tunneled mid-70's curveball that offered consistent, two-plane shape while a 79-82 mph changeup killed spin at 1490rpms, showing fade to the arm-side. A hard, sweeping 78-81 mph slider also flashed above-average, able to be utilized into RHH dead zones on the hands and land for strikes across the plate (7 inches HM). The West Chester Rustin product profiles as one of the best uncommitted left-handed pitching prospects in the class.
