Most-Viewed Profiles of 2025: No. 1 Jack Bauer

Assistant Scouting Director, Illinois & Wisconsin

Our most-viewed profile of 2025 is unsurprisingly LHP Jack Bauer (Lincoln-Way East, 2025) after his meteoric spring. Bauer took over the internet with his record-setting fastball, becoming the hardest-throwing high schooler ever to toe the rubber when he got clocked at 102.8 mph. This fastball quickly had organizations running to see him as he was pitching in front of dozens of scouts routinely, eventually having him in the discussion for a day one pick in the draft. He would end up honoring his commitment to Mississippi State, where he is regarded as the top freshman to make it to campus per D1 Baseball, and we’re eager to see what the future has in store for him.

No stranger to the Prep Baseball family, Bauer has been to numerous prestigious events throughout the years, including the Future Games and even the All-American Game in 2023. He seemed to get better and better each time we saw him, a trend that continued all the way until he graduated, leaving him as arguably the most electric prep arm to ever come out of the state.

From 4/25/25: “Virginia commit. Currently ranked No. 3 in the state and No. 15 nationally. Trim 6-foot-4, 191-pound frame with room for added strength in the future. Got the ball to start for the Griffins and continued his impressive 2025 campaign. He has a loose and easy delivery down the mound, throwing from a clean ¾ slot. He attacked with his fastball that sat 97-99 mph (T100) early, before settling in at 95-96 mph, showing spin-feel (2500+ rpm). His go-to secondary continued to be a sharp slider that played in the 79-82 mph range with high-spin (2600+ rpm). Bauer would also mix in an 85-86 mph changeup, while showing a potential fourth offering; a curveball that he would toss in warmups. He would control the run-game well in this outing, varying moves and his looks at runners on base. It was a more extended look at Bauer than we have been accustomed to seeing this spring, which allowed him to show even more feel to pitch as well as his ability to make pitches in big spots with runners on and in scoring position. Perhaps the most impressive part of Bauer’s game is his ability to be around the zone and control all of his offerings, evidenced by not allowing a single walk through four innings while throwing 34 of his 46 pitches for strikes (74% strikes). Line: 4 IP, H, 0 BB, 0 R, 5 K. Bauer has certainly cemented himself as a must-know name with the MLB Draft coming up in July.”

We’re incredibly excited to see Bauer continue to progress and develop throughout the coming years. Already boasting one of the best fastballs in the world, Bauer has shown flashes of a plus slider and quality changeup that will help fill out his arsenal and make him even more dangerous when he toes the rubber for the Bulldogs.

Scouting Report

4/14/25

Virginia commit, currently ranked No. 3 in Illinois and No. 15 in the country. Long-levered 6-foot-3, 191-pounds, some present strength in the lower-half, still holds room for added physical growth in the coming years. Was working with a 50-pitch limit and went 2.1 innings, scattering two hits with one earned run, one walk and five strikeouts. Easy and simple delivery, stays over the rubber with his back knee and drives in-line down the mound, slight cross-fire at times, not much perceived effort. Long and loose arm swing, ¾ release window with arm-speed. Fastball sat 96-99 mph early on with heavy arm-side run, collecting swing/miss in the upper quadrants of the zone, settled in around 94-97 mph in the second and 93-95 in the third. Slider was his best secondary offering with slurvy, sharp action and depth, showing the ability to dump it in for strikes, also used to backdoor RHH, 78-81 mph (2700 rpm). Flashed a changeup with hard dive, 83-84 mph, looks to be a potential quality third offering. High-level draft follow garnering first day attention.
