St. Louis Preseason ID: Quick Hits

Eliott Wilk
Central Region Operations Director

On Monday, February 17th, the Prep Baseball Missouri staff traveled to the Bud Dome in St. Louis, MO to host the annual St. Louis Preseason ID. This event, which is in its 6th year, was open to 2025-2028 prospects with 30+ names in attendance.

All of our events offer players the opportunity to update their recruiting resume and showcase their talents in front of our staff. We also use these events as identifiers for future invite-only events, like the Preseason All-State, our summer Top Prospect Games, and the prestigious Prep Baseball Future Games that takes place at the tail end of the summer. Earlier, our staff rolled out the day’s statistical standouts in leaderboard format within our ‘Stat Story’, which you can find HERE. Today, after combing through our notes from the day, we’ve compiled some of the event’s standouts within these ‘Quick Hits’. Read below to learn about 15+ names that popped to our staff from Saturday's trip to St. Louis.

QUICK HITS

+ RHP Cole Scott (Windsor, 2025; Southeast Missouri State commit) delivered a standout bullpen on Monday, showcasing his command of both sides of the zone with an impressive three-pitch mix. The SEMO commit topped out at 90.8 mph with his fastball, consistently sitting between 89-90 mph. Standing strong at 6-foot-2 and 205 pounds, his frame suggests there's significant velocity growth still ahead. His curveball is currently his most promising secondary pitch, flashing swing-and-miss potential in the 77-79 mph range. Additionally, he featured a low-spin changeup with late arm-side fade, clocking in at 80-82 mph.

+ 1B/LHP Austin Jones (Lindbergh, 2026) is a physical two-way prospect who stood out with his performance. At 6-foot-2, 200 pounds, Jones showcased impressive strength and middle-of-the-order power from the left side, driving his hardest-hit ball 92.6 mph to 323 feet with a level, rotational swing. He also posted the top infield velocity of the day, firing an 84 mph laser across the diamond to third base. On the mound, his power translated seamlessly, as he worked in the low-80s with a sharp curveball and changeup mix to complement his fastball. Keep an eye on Jones as he continues to polish his game.

+ C/RHP Chase Dillinger (Van Buren, 2027) made a strong impression in his Prep Baseball debut on Monday, emerging as a two-way prospect to watch. The small-school standout showed quick-twitch athleticism and bat speed at the plate, delivering a level right-handed swing that stayed through the zone. He barreled his hardest-hit ball at 91.1 mph, with even more power likely as he continues to add strength. Defensively, Dillinger displayed a developing transfer behind the plate, posting pop times between 1.91-1.95 seconds with a 74 mph arm. He capped off the day with an intriguing showing on the mound, working his fastball at 81-84 mph and topping out at 85.2 mph. He complemented it with a sharp 70-72 mph curveball, a sinking splitter at 74-78 mph, and a heavy 81-82 mph sinker.

+ One of the youngest participants of the day, RHP/INF Rory Marshall (Francis Howell Central, 2028) impressed as a two-way prospect, with his most notable performance coming on the mound. His fastball sat comfortably at 82-84 mph, topping out at 85 mph, with an average spin rate of 2,134 RPM. He complemented it with a developing 71-72 mph curveball and effectively killed spin on a 76-77 mph changeup. At the plate, Marshall showcased a repeatable, athletic swing that consistently found the barrel, producing a top exit velocity of 92.8 mph. Marshall will be a name to keep an eye on in the coming years.

+ OF/INF Nicholas Weidler (Seckman, 2027) delivered one of the most impressive BP rounds of the day, showcasing his power and bat speed. The 6-foot-2, 180-pound sophomore consistently found the barrel with authority, demonstrating a level right-handed swing packed with athleticism. His hardest-hit ball traveled 356 feet at 98.9 mph per TrackMan. Defensively, Weidler flashed his arm strength by recording the day's highest outfield velocity, firing an 84 mph strike. As he continues to add size and strength, Weidler is a name to watch closely in the years ahead.

+ OF/RHP Connar Lucas (St. Louis University, 2027) and RHP Will Pennell (Sacred Heart-Griffin, IL, 2026) are two physical right-handers of note from this look, each featuring fastballs in the mid-80s.
