2026 Sardis Lions Team Preview

The 2026 high school baseball season is quickly approaching and as usual, excitement abounds throughout the state. Players and coaches have been working in preparation for the upcoming season and, as is the case each year, there are some very talented players and teams across Alabama.

Teams across the state have goals and aspirations to finish their seasons in the Jacksonville/Oxford/Montgomery area at the AISA or AHSAA state championships, but there is plenty of work to be done before that becomes reality. We hope to familiarize our readers with many of the teams across the state as we preview individual teams across Alabama. We will take you right up to first pitch this season with these team previews and by continuing our scheduled podcasts and releasing our preseason top-10 rankings in each AHSAA classification.

Each week we will be releasing our Players of the Week, updating the top-10 ranks in each AHSAA classification, as well updating our Power 25 overall rankings. One thing, especially, you don’t want to miss are our scheduled podcasts with guests from across the state, as well as the recaps and previews of the big games we’re covering.

TEAM OUTLOOK

Sardis enters the 2026 season looking to rebound after a 9-14 finish in 2025 that did not result in a postseason appearance. With the entire roster returning, including every arm from last year’s pitching staff, the Lions head into the spring with continuity and familiarity that should allow for growth and improvement in Class 5A Area 13.

The Lions return a balanced group of upperclass contributors expected to anchor both the lineup and pitching staff. OF Levi Martin (2026) returns as an experienced outfield option, while UTL Garrett Holland (2026) provides versatility across the field. On the mound and at first base, RHP/1B Brady Gazaway (2026) returns as a key two-way piece, joined by RHP/OF Owen Gazaway (2026), who also factors into both the rotation and outfield. The junior class adds depth throughout the lineup. C Kaden Walters (2027) returns behind the plate, while INF Gavin Holland (2027) and INF Cason Tumlin (2027) provide infield options with varsity experience. 1B Carson Weaver (2027) rounds out the returning core as another positional piece expected to contribute during the season.

Pitching stands out as Sardis’ primary strength entering 2026, with every pitcher from last season back in uniform. That continuity gives the Lions flexibility as roles develop and allows the staff to build off innings gained a year ago. As head coach Scott Brackett noted, “We have the whole roster returning, and all pitchers are back.” With roster stability and pitching depth in place, Sardis enters the 2026 season focused on translating continuity into improved results and competing more consistently in Class 5A.
